Transfer Portal 2023-2024...

Another reason to dislike the portal! Goodness.

Spend all this time recruiting a player and he can bail in a heartbeat!

Shocked at that. I get that alot of QBs feel the weight of the world on them. Some of these guys take any criticism as the fans ( or coaches ) hate them when it's not. It's a tough position to play and you must be thick-skin to do it. But they get more benefits and glory than anybody else. So if you want the glory you better have the guts to handle the negative side also.
I wouldn't be surprised if Day encouraged this - it's pretty obvious McCord isn't up to the QB standard OSU has enjoyed for many years. Either that or he saw the writing on the wall - but with that receiver room McCord should have had crazy numbers this year.

Sounds like the kid Ward is headed to Columbus…
College football is forever changed…not for the best I’m afraid..free agency w/no rules and millions upon millions of dollars…smh…

From the article above about McCord.
"As time went on, Kyle got better as the season went on," Day said Sunday. "Had a little bit of those ankle injuries that he worked through; he showed toughness there. Certainly the Notre Dame game, he played really well down the stretch. So I think there was growth there, for sure, and I think he's a good quarterback, I do. After every year, you evaluate everything, and try to figure out what to do next. But I think there was a lot of progress made this year."

On Sunday, Ohio State was selected to play Missouri in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic on Dec. 29. Day was noncommittal about McCord's status as the team's starter when asked about it Sunday.

"When you come up short, the bottom line is you got to look at everything, because you didn't get it done, and that's the thing that is just sobering here," Day said. "At 11-1, you come up short on the last possession, it's just not good enough. So you got to look at everything, and we will look at everything."

Sounds like he was encouraged to leave to me.

I guarantee you huge sleaze is hammering phones this morning trying to buy QBs and WRs. Several top tier QBs are “available”.
Just wonder how bad it’s going to set back the PTB at the barn trying to buy a team like their coach buys hookers.

Portal might break some records this year.

I don't fully understand all of these QBs transferring. A number of guys I thought made sense where they are. A few of these guys are pretty darn good too.

Maybe to get multiple NIL deals over their eligibility period? I know they say the best way for a decent employee to increase his salary is to keep changing employers. I do not know all the stipulations regarding NIL length of service.

Supposedly the day before this announcement Ryan Day said McCord was "a long way away" from being the starter in 2024. I guess that's all McCord needed to hear.

Wow. That seems to be huge news and a shock.

@B1GTide did you see this one coming???

Exactly what the transfer portal was NOT meant to be used for. Thanks NCAA for your corruption, incompetence, inaction, and pointy-headedness. Demolish the whole institution and start over with the schools that matter. Everybody else can take a hike or do their own thing... I don't really care.

Who's got a cool 3 mil lying around that will snatch him up?
