Bama Game Thread: Official Postgame Thread - Bama vs. UGA...

This is probably recency bias on my part, but this might be the most satisfying win under Saban. It’s not the biggest or most important, but satisfying that we took down the team that everyone has proclaimed has supplanted us as the best.

I don’t know where UGA goes from here, but this is really where Kirby will be tested because both the team and fanbase has been on top for almost 3 years. How do they react to the disappointment of not being in the playoff after having gotten used to it.

From 2017 - 2020 they had moments of greatness, but the carrot of the national title was always dangled as incentive. Now they have to deal with disappointment and complacency. Saban has navigated that brilliantly over his tenure. We will see how Kirby does. Clemson and Dabo did not handle that well.
Add to that….There schedule is about to get a lot more difficult with conference expansion and no feast on the east schedule to navigate.

He was hesitant to run all game until the end.

Georgia was so keyed on him that if he ran the fakes a little harder the backs would’ve had more room to work with.

As crazy as it sounds to say this, I think every contributor on this team is a better player than they were at the beginning of the season. I know that’s what coaches strive for, but how many actually achieve it?

Rees and Steele should split the Broyles award. So many question marks on this team to start the season, the sluggish early games, and yet here they are.

There’s a video going around of the Michigan teams reaction to having to play Alabama, it’s quite comical.
That`s an interesting observation about UGA keying on JM. That`s extreme respect for his legs. Other than just the yardage he might gain, it`s interesting to think how other advantages might be gained.

Saw the clip. Michigan doesn`t want any part of Alabama right now, and I would hazard a guess nobody else does, either.

Well, isn`t EVERYBODY`S schedule about to become more difficult? This past season could well be the last that we see a conference champion with an undefeated conference record.

With the Michigan clip, it is hilarious and awesome, but I really hope the players don’t let that get to their heads! I’m sure it won’t but as a fan I reserve the right to be a nervous nelly 😅.

UM is a good football team, particularly so on their D line from what I understand. I expect a battle that will require a UGA type effort.

Yes, but UGA's schedule over the last 3 seasons has been very favorable. They haven't played a top 10 team on the road since they played us in 2020, and only two top 25 road games in that period (Auburn in 2021 and UT this year). That's rather remarkable considering we've played 5 top 25 road games during that period, including 2 top 10.

So I’m rewatching some of the game, and in the first quarter when we pinned UGA deep, we almost sacked Beck for a safety on 2nd down. He threw a desperation pass that McConkey tried to come back for but didn’t catch (he trapped it). I noticed that Nessler goes, “He caught it!” Which is fair enough it looked at first like he did from the camera angle. But then it was ruled incomplete and, out loud on the broadcast, he goes, “Rats!”.

Those 2 were so pulling for Georgia on Saturday and they couldn’t even hide it lol.

Gary was highly complimentary about Alabama's OL when they were running to the right side for lots of yards, and commented very favorably on Burton's technique vs tight coverage on the TD right before the half.

Later on they came back to the lack of a review on Bond's catch, but I think Gene the rules guy gave them the ammunition to do that.

Nessler actually said "Trapped"

Neither Brad nor Gary were "so pulling" for Georgia. After watching the game twice and listening closely to them call the game, I think they did a good job Saturday.

It being CBS's final broadcast of SEC football, I thought the broadcast, and especially the final minutes, were handled in an exemplary way.

Just my opinion, of course 🙂

With all due respect, I think you were listening with "crimson glasses" on ;)

I almost couldn't believe it when they said they spent the majority of the halftime break obsessing over it.

But then I could believe it and expected Danielson to harp on it for the rest of the game as well.... and he did not fail to live up to that expectation.

Yep - watched the game again last night but with the volume on. Nessler said trapped. Nessler was very neutral, as was Gary. But Gary was officiating from the booth all night. He was being fair about it, but I just cannot stand that. Do your job, let the officials do theirs. If they make a mistake, comment about it and then move on.

BTW - kudos to the officiating crew in that game. I thought they did a great job. They let the players decide the game on the field.
