Bama Game Thread: Official Postgame Thread - Bama vs. UGA...

Yep - watched the game again last night but with the volume on. Nessler said trapped. Nessler was very neutral, as was Gary. But Gary was officiating from the booth all night. He was being fair about it, but I just cannot stand that. Do your job, let the officials do theirs. If they make a mistake, comment about it and then move on.

BTW - kudos to the officiating crew in that game. I thought they did a great job. They let the players decide the game on the field.

We didn't even notice them - which was perfect.

And they DID have a few toughies.

Nessler actually said "Trapped"

Neither Brad nor Gary were "so pulling" for Georgia. After watching the game twice and listening closely to them call the game, I think they did a good job Saturday.

It being CBS's final broadcast of SEC football, I thought the broadcast, and especially the final minutes, were handled in an exemplary way.

Just my opinion, of course 🙂

With all due respect, I think you were listening with "crimson glasses" on ;)
No. He said both. He said “rats!” Then followed it up with “trapped”.

So I’m rewatching some of the game, and in the first quarter when we pinned UGA deep, we almost sacked Beck for a safety on 2nd down. He threw a desperation pass that McConkey tried to come back for but didn’t catch (he trapped it). I noticed that Nessler goes, “He caught it!” Which is fair enough it looked at first like he did from the camera angle. But then it was ruled incomplete and, out loud on the broadcast, he goes, “Rats!”.

Those 2 were so pulling for Georgia on Saturday and they couldn’t even hide it lol.

Really?!? I missed that...

Gary was highly complimentary about Alabama's OL when they were running to the right side for lots of yards, and commented very favorably on Burton's technique vs tight coverage on the TD right before the half.

Later on they came back to the lack of a review on Bond's catch, but I think Gene the rules guy gave them the ammunition to do that.

Yeah I was being a little tongue in cheek saying that they were pulling for Georgia. But they were also pretty consistent in trying to point out potential missed penalties on Alabama all game long. They should both just do their job and stop trying to second guess the officials all the time. If they want to say something in the moment that’s fine, but then move on. They ended that game talking about Bond’s 4th down catch.

No, he did not.

This is what they say:

Brad: Loss of 3 for Bowers, 2nd down and 13 back at the 10. Carson Beck near his own goal line. Look out. Now in his own end ZONE, he's got to get rid of it, aaaand it is CAUGHT by McConkey

Gary: I don't think so.

Brad: (difficult to discern syllable, it could be nope, the Midwestern ope or 'up' but definitely not 'rats') Trapped.

Gary: Yup.

I didn’t understand that. Play. Did line go wrong way, or running back. Hard to believe it was planned.

Very bad read by Jalen - if he's being given the latitude to make that read. If not, a pre-determined give designed to look like a zone read that UGA just sniffed out. There was simply no way in the world that Seth was going to be able to get over to block a guy lined up where he was.

I’ve praised the Oline recently. Rewatching the game, what happened on this 2nd and 3 from the Georgia 18 ? The LT and LG pull right, and the RB runs left into defense, looses 6 yards

I noticed that in the game. It seems to me either the o-line ran the wrong play (or the right ply in the wrong direction) of the QB and RB did. I cannot believe that you pull to o-linemen and run them away from the RB. Of course it got stopped for a six-yard loss.

what really ticks me off is that gary freaking danielson knows this. brad nessler knows this. gene steratore knows this, as does every other person working on their crew. i hope they have fun in the big 10. gary should have plenty of time to run his yap

An SEC spokesman told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, responding to an email requesting an explanation, that “every play is reviewed in the Video Center, but some are stopped for further review. The play you referenced was reviewed, and it was determined there was not enough evidence to overturn the call and not necessary to stop the play for further review.”

I can’t believe this. How DARE y’all question me and my bias and hearing.

Went back and listened again, what it sounds like on my speakers is actually “drat”. It’s at the 30:55 mark on my YouTubeTV replay. Listening closer just now after y’all’s comments I will admit you are correct, he says “trapped”. It just comes out really weirdly clipped. When I heard that as I was casually rewatching last night with 2 beers I definitely heard it as “rats” or “drat”. I will blame it on my poor laptop speakers 😉😄😅.

Anyways I would like to say again that I was really just having fun with what I thought I heard, though I very seriously maintain that CBS & Gary’s officiating from the booth is unprofessional and irresponsible, and their continuous shade throwing on Bond’s catch was something that the SEC office should honestly pull them aside over.

If I took a shot every time Gary & Brad told me Bowers and McConkey weren’t 100%, I’d still be hammered and unable to walk. I sure don’t remember the announcers whining the entire national championship when we played UGA about Williams & Metchie, who were absent as opposed to playing the entire game.

anyone else confused how the game ended? the clock didn't seem to stop after our last first down, then we ran a play when technically the game could have ended on 3 kneel downs, opening us up for a Miami situation, I was just caught off guard when we came back from commercial and Gary was taking about two kneel downs is all we need to win.

And yet, they still had Bond's CATCH up as the play of the game.

I know I've reviewed it several times and it always looks like a catch to me.

Especially taking into account that Milroe fumbled the ball on his last run for first down. I don't know why Coach Saban didn't call for 3 kneel downs. Georgia had one timeout and used it after the short run on first down but that could have been a kneel down with less risk of a fumble.
