I think he's made a couple of boners, but not as many as his immediate predecessors. I certainly prefer him over someone who worships dictators and wants to pull out of NATO...Don’t forget his brilliant handling of foreign policy.

Well, an old ham sandwich already did beat Hillary so the bar is pretty low!At this point, I'm reasonably certain a ham sandwich would beat Biden in a clean election. Alas, I genuinely don't believe there is such a thing which is why I gave on voting 2 decades ago.
I have thought about why our working class, including farmers, are feeling so miserable about the economy and their standard of living in the US. Without debating monetary policy we can probably agree that the great transfer of wealth in this country into the hands of the wealthy plus long sought after global inflation has broadly impacted purchasing power and practically everyone feels it.I think he's made a couple of boners, but not as many as his immediate predecessors. The Republicans are trying to bring about tighter immigration policies. The two sides just can’t agree on what tighter should look like to the point the democrats may let Ukraine fall apart instead of making a border deal of some sort.I have thought about why our working class, including farmers, are feeling so miserable about the economy and their standard of living in the US. I look at Europe and see it becoming more broadly destablized due to immigration which appears to me to be more impactful to their society than in the US. Obviously Republicans here don't have a desire to agree on tighter immigration policy because it provides such great political leverage for them.
We could discuss Biden's political misteps for a week. To me the Democrats including Obama appear completely impotent at combating the growth of Fascism including outright illegal acts from Trump and his minions. Has anyone even seen Merrick Garland in 2023?

They seem to only care about 'sticking it to the dems'.Republicans are willing to let Ukraine fall and to have no improvement on the border situation. Why is that? And why is that not a problem?

Depending on if you are on the left or right side of the aisle will determine how you view this issue. If you are right leaning you look at the Republicans in the House and Senate saying yes to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan funding, but saying let's do the border as well since it is a national security issue. We will give you what you want and we get what we want. It's classic political bargaining to be able to back to your base and say we got this for you. If the border is more under control and Biden can say he signed the bill that helped do that it takes an arrow out of the quiver of his opponent in the general election. It would be good for him to have the border situation improved while he is campaigning. It's a divided government. That means no one gets all they want. They seem to only care about 'sticking it to the dems'.
Currently, 44% of Americans say they are struggling to remain where they are financially. Another 43% report being basically stable, while only 12% say their financial situation is improving. In the three years prior to the pandemic, the number of Americans who were struggling ranged between 20% and 29% while those who reported having improved finances ranged between 20% and 25%. When the COVID pandemic hit in March 2020, the number who said their finances were improving dropped to 11% but those who were struggling barely rose 26%, which was about on par with prior polling. This latter number remained basically steady throughout the pandemic and stood at 24% in June 2021, just a few months into the start of the current inflationary cycle. The number of Americans who said they were struggling increased to 42% as inflation peaked at about 9% in June 2022, but then went down to 37% in October 2022 as the rate of inflation started to ease. However, even though the inflation rate has continued to decline, the number of Americans who reported struggling started to increase again, hitting 41% in March of this year before registering 44% in the current poll./QUOTE]
As has been posted before, what many people really want, or think they want, is deflation. Of course, that would probably lead to an instant recession. Japan has struggled with that problem for decades. But you are right. People will remain unhappy with the economy until they pay what they paid the year before last for purchases...Inflation may subside but I have rarely ever seen prices for basic necessities ever come down.
The sticker for me comes from eating out. Our current family life phase requires it. Restaurant pricing has doubled. Insurance has skyrocketed too.
Or until real wages catch up to the point that the basket of groceries in 2024 cost the same percentage of income it did a few years ago.As has been posted before, what many people really want, or think they want, is deflation. Amen and amen...not only do we need this, the world needs us to have it as well. This was one of the comments on the YT vid I posted in the 'Colorado' thread. I thought it belonged in this thread I started.......and goes to some of the points I made early on......
As a 59 year old Australian I grew up admiring America. Winning wars, going into space, developing technology and dealing with global threats. Presidents were admired and respected and elections were held in a manner that were befitting of the office. Fast forward to today and everything is upside down. It's clowns to the left and clowns to the right. We wake up over here and the news reads like the script of a B grade Hollywood movie. If ever a country needed somebody to lead their nation out of looming chaos it is this one. They need someone that is universally admired, who has respect for the office, respect for colleagues and opponents, respect for the elected institutions, respect for the law and respect for the constitution. From afar it appears there is no one that fits the description and we the rest of the world are left to ponder the consequences.
