Alabama QBs in 2024

You are right about that, but it was the first time that I know of he'd ever been in that situation. This would be his second time through it, and do you think he would be as hesitant if presented with it again? Should be another intriguing offseason. 🤔
Plus, Coach is 72 so he can’t wait til next year to win. It is now because Father Time will beat us all.

I don't know the portal rules for baseball players but Lonergan will be with the baseball team this spring. I don't know how 2 sport athletes are handled in this era.

If it's anything like the past, the kid better be a stud at both because it is uber hard at that level to compete for starting positions doing both. A lot of people don't realize how great Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders actually were.

I agree 100%, and said as much in a post a few days ago. I do think Milroe gave us the best chance this year for the simple reason we probably would have lost a game or two earlier in the season in addition the Texas game. Therefore, I think Coach Saban made the best decision even if it didn’t help us for next year. To me, the goal is the present and winning in the current year.

With all that said, the slate was erased on Tuesday morning and the calendar flipped to the 2024 team. I hope for a truly open competition in the spring, but come fall camp, I want the position settled early. I agree the way it played out this past season probably hurt us, at least in the short term, and aided in our loss to Texas.
It would have been interesting for sure. I think we still beat Ole Miss in that first game, because they only scored 10 points. You get him past that game and he has Mississippi State before the next big test against A&M, so he does get 2 games under his belt before that

My concern is this thing turns into a Jalen/Tua 2.0 situation. Every indication is that Simpson and Lonergan have continued to improve and Sayin coming in with some lofty expectations.
Bottom line: I don’t care who starts. I want the best player out there that gives us the best opportunity to win, week in and week out.

I think a big reason Lonergan was out of the running was because of Sayin being that special.

Simpson coming back does speak volumes. Because it’s pretty much a given that he would be first in line at many P5 programs with a need of a quarterback, and quarterbacks coming in the summer have a tough hill to climb to get a shot at the job. So I really think we are probably where we were last spring all over again.

Ty was supposed to be ready. He wasn’t. Saban had limited options and chose to draw to an inside straight and then bluff his way to the win. It didn’t work

They had a nice season. CNS did a fantastic job with a young offense. We’re not entitled to a national championship every year, we need to drop this sense of entitlement and appreciate each year for what it is. We may not have a whole lot left.

If we are counting 2020 for Mac, which I assume, because the other graphic did, then Mac should be first in passer rating. His was 203.1.

Well it’s because he started in 2019.

But I would caution people into putting stock in stats like passer rating and passer efficiency. Keep in mind the less you throw the better you look. I mean what’s more impressive…. Jalen Milroe throwing the 284 times and having a 65% completion rate or Blake Sims throwing it 391 times and having a 64%? As much heck as Bama fans gave JJ McCarthy he still threw 314 times at a 71% completion rate. It’s like I said… NFL stats. In college it’s about playing risks because the defenses are so bad.

This where stats lie in college. The fact we are comparing Milroe to the likes of Stetson Bennett and Jalen Hurts (college) shows that we are acknowledging a very flawed quarterback that struggles distributing the ball. He either holds on way too long or when he does check down it’s to the wrong receiver.

Milroe's stats prove that stats absolutely lie.

Oh I know, but the other graphic in the next post had 11.2 yards per attempt, which is a 2020 stat, so it seems like they are counting 2020.

Spot on, though.

JM proves that some factions of this fanbase have unrealistic expectations for how 1st year starters will perform and are not patient enough to allow players develop into their potential.
Not true at all. I want him to improve. I am very patient. But if he cannot read defenses next year and he starts, not only will Alabama lose a bunch of games, but you will also lose every talented receiver to the portal.

That’s my biggest worry. I think this class coming in has a bunch of generational talent at many positions, more so than many classes signed in the last 17 years.

As I mentioned in another thread, Bama doesn’t need a dual threat qb. We have actually too much talent to need one. You need a QB that can run when needed. But when you have elite specialists, let them be special.

Bryce, Tua, Mac all threw receivers open. I only remember seeing one this year, and it was Ty Vs Kentucky. Milroe’s deep passes, while accurate were mostly the receiver adjusting post throw and fighting for the catch.
Exactly. Bama needs a mobile QB, not dual threat.

I seems as if you don't believe Milroe is capable of improving his ability to read the D. Am I reading too much into your posts?
