Who is Saban's replacement?

agree. Approaching that 72 hour deadline.
Actually, the deadline is ~28 hours away - that's over a day. I can see why to you it probably seems like it has been a little less than 2 weeks, when it has been less than 44 hours, i.e., less than 2 days. Maybe you can start recollecting some of Alabama's 30 SEC titles or the 17 NCs - that should cheer up any Crimson Tide fan. Many of those titles and championships are recent but span almost 100 years.

He only beat Lanning twice, and got where Saban, Sark, and Smart couldn't get to this year. It's not like he has playoff experience either...

Geeze, man. 🙄

...and despite all of that finished #36 in recruiting this year.

You need an elite recruiter for this job, Lanning is one, DeBoer isn't.

My source is friends with a big time booster.
This was just sent to me:

"DeBoer has been offered the job. Washington AD is currently meeting with DeBoer for an extension. Ball is in DeBoer’s court.

Byrne told Norvell no this morning due to NCAA infractions.

Also Lanning was never offered the job.

Sark was offered.

Bond in the portal now. Here we go!

Time for the new coach to sell the team why they should stay and hopefully Saban helps in those conversations"
And if that doesnt work, Kiffin or Dabo or BUST!

Some aren't going to be happy with ANYONE Bama brings in
That's true I guess, because no one really has all the characteristics Saban has (unless you're talking about Smart who seems fairly close).

Lanning can recruit, Dabo can win the big game, Kiffin is masterful on offense, etc... but you then you get the complaints and concerns and who people do or don't like, or who did what when they were in Tuscaloosa and so on.

My frustration is just the notion that obvious hires could be passed up in favor or bigger risks. Doesn't mean it will happen, doesn't mean it won't work, but the ground is pretty shaky right now.

This is a program that passed up an Alabama guy twice, who had built a juggernaut in favor of riskier hires. Hard not to be anxious about it.

I have confidence that GB and CNS are navigating this transition with the professionalism that we all expect. You don't negotiate and offer a $100M contract without the proper diligence. They are also not going to rush through this process to soothe the ego of a handful of student-athletes. GB has one chance to get this right and if that takes a bit of time, so be it.

Is is typical for a coach to meet with their AD if they are going to take a new job? This makes me nervous.

That said, we don't need to panic even if he does say no. Byrne knows what he is doing.

Anyway there are a number of very bright coaches in college football than the small list of names that have emerged so far.
Exactly right. It is important to realize that none of us have seen Byrne's list of candidates. Everything posted on here are nothing more than opinions. I have an opinion myself and I believe our next coach may be "an up and comer", somebody that never has crossed our mind. Think about that. How many of us thought Nate Oats would become our basketball coach? Just sayin.............

Yes, it is typical............either to listen to the offer of an extension, or say I am taking the other job

Mike Tyson said it best....everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face. I'm sure there was a GREAT plan in place, but you don't know what goes on in a candidate's mind, what his family is saying to him, how appealing the situation actually is vs. what they have in place at their own school. You just can't make someone take a job.

I agree, and I think the bolded is key. If you're at a school where you think you can actually win a title/that has elite level money (i.e. a top tier SEC or Big Ten job) that job probably is more appeaing than Alabama at the moment.

If Lanning wins a national title at Oregon he'll be a god there. The pressure and expectations following Saban here are a totally different level. "The guy who follows the guy" is a really tough spot.

i've really enjoyed seeing highlights of the past 17 years. especially some of those from the first few years

Byrne made some (what I think) very important comments right off the bat about this process that I think we need to pay very close attention to. He said, "there will be a lot of rumors but do not believe anything unless it comes out of my mouth". Now, that can be taken a lot of ways, and one of those ways could be taken as some of the rumors were coming from UA's office...on purpose. The other way, and the most accepted meaning is people who have nothing to do with the process are going to say anything to get clicks and attention.
just remember 3 people CAN keep a secret. if two of em are dead....

Cynically I'm kind of hoping DeBoer doesn't take the job because it might force Alabama's powers that be into accepting someone they like less, that will recruit better.

But, even from my perspective that's a dangerous game to play. Some of these guys are getting locked down as we speak, or know they are being snubbed, even if he's not my first choice DeBoer isn't my last choice either.

People need to accept that there is only one Saban, and his time came and he is retired.............happens to all good coaches.............You are never going to get anyone exactly like the great one you just lost to retirement. And none are pefect.

This has quickly if not already becoming an embarrassment. Hope An announcement is imminent. I still like KD.
Only because Twitter is unregulated.
no one knows for sure who’s been offered, so coaches, saying that they are turning down the position, doesn’t necessarily mean they were offered it.
