Alabama QBs in 2024

Understanding the concept/offense is one thing. Effective execution of those things is another.
Exactly - in my life there have been a lot of things in the sports world I could understand and even teach to someone, but never had the skills or ability to execute personally. Knowing and executing - two completely different things...

Pretty much. A staff member basically stood in a room of REC members and flat out said Saban told both of them in post spring interviews “Neither of y’all are cutting it and we are going to get a quarterback in the portal. If either of y’all want to transfer then we will support you and help you find a destination that best suits you”.
Interesting that they're both still here a year later

Lonergan according to some prominent insiders was never going to get a shot unless the dam broke loose. The prospect of losing Sayin was something the Saban staff wasn’t willing to chance.

This is why I think Lonergan might end up being the starter when it's all said and done. If he really looked as good as they say, then it sounds like he was the big winner with the coaching change.

I don't think CKD can afford, for the sake of the returning players, to play it safe and go with Milroe because he was the QB1 last season.
It's not a matter of can, but will.

Deboer isn't like many posters here, afraid to fail. Real high-performers always believe they are the next GOAT, they just need the right opportunity.

If Deboer is looking over his shoulder, or worried about appearance then he was the wrong hire.

My guess (and I'd bet a lot of money on this) is that he's not. As a driven professional, I'll bet dollars to donuts he doesn't care what people want - other than wins.

This is a description of what I remember the Washington offense looking like and it parallels with what I expect we'll see a lot more often.

As the article points out, this is NOT what our offense looked like last year.

This is what makes the QB race so interesting. Can JM become this type of QB who sees and completes shorter routes. If he can do this, the defense will adjust and the long pass will be there from time to time. I'll say it again, if JM learns to run the offense like CKD envisions it, we'll be in business and his draft stock rises too.

But if JM can't do it, which of the other QBs can??? That's he million dollar question for 2024!

So, did CKD mean nobody else is getting time with the 1s except Jalen? That's NOT what we've heard.

OR did he mean when Jalen gets snaps he's only working with the 1s?

At any rate, why don't these guys ask about TS, Mack or DL???

FWIW, even though he's asked about JM , CKD comments on the depth of the QB room and says the other guys have opportunities too, but he doesn't go into specifics.

That is the way it did sound but tbh it doesn't quite thrill me to hear this.

That said, if he announces that Milroe will not start, he risks his most experienced QB transfering out.

Different world these days, no?

How about this interpretation of CKD's comments: Jalen is the best we have.

I know nothing more than what I see and hear.

Jalen is a winner and a leader. He competes to win. I also think he's very coachable and wants to be coached hard and internalizes it to make himself better and his teammates want to be on the field with him.

How the other guys in the QB room do will be up to them but Jalen will do what he needs to do. That's my take.

I don't think DeBoer is afraid to fail with who he thinks are the best players on the field. However, I just don't see the guy as a person who'd put a player out there JUST BECAUSE he was the starter last season and the players "loved" him. He didn't get the career record he did by doing things like that.

Here's how I take it: He doesn't say Jalen is "the best we have" he says Jalen is "headlining that group" (referring to the talented QB room. Whether he meant to do it or not, it's the perfect word considering the media is putting Jalen in the "headlines."

He does comment on Jalen's experience of leading the team to a SEC crown and semi-final appearance, which CKD can relate to how difficult it is to achieve.

I think it means just what most people are assuming at this point: JM is the presumptive leader in the club-house based on last year's achievements as starter. I think it also means CKD has seen things he likes about his game, which he makes reference to. And, I think it means, Jalen is #1 in the rotation right now.

Does that mean he'll start game 1 this fall? No, but I think it means he's got every opportunity to do so. And, CKD is playing it smart because he compliments the other guys and doesn't necessarily rule anyone out.

The media seems to be JM's best friend, but they also are providing ALOT of motivation for the other guys to catch and pass him.

Yea, again, Coach is playing to the crowd. Everyone is asking about Milroe and he gives the coach speak answer. Sure Jalen is only taking 1 team reps as he is the incumbent. But, CKD still does not know what he has and the scrimmages will determine who performs best under fire. Coach wants competition at every position and that includes QB. I still do not think a starter will be named before the end of Fall camp.

Here is another piece that explains my point. They are using the same information in the article that we have all seen but the headline "incredibly impressed" is just a media hype mechanism to get you to read. He is the incumbent and presumed starter but no one knows anything really. You can bet the other QBs on the team are motivated though.

One would think that they'd be overjoyed to actually have quality QB coaching for once.

I will say that if Jalen holds onto QB1 and starts the 1st game it will be because he has improved a lot and is the Best QB we have on the roster to run CKD's Offense and none of the others could beat him out.

A lot of my doubt is tied to 2017 tbh because we know CNS had a tendency to favor certain players whether they were the best or not.

You can't convince me that Tua wasn't ready or the best choice to be QB1 until 30 mins left in the season.

So that plus the USF mutiny has created a lot of doubt for me with the order of our QB room.
