I think that's a bit overblown - warfare is always changing, and smart people will devise ways to defense against drone attacks, or at least mitigate their effectiveness.

But I doubt anyone foresaw modern tanks being made so ineffective so quickly by cheap tech...

I bet the Pentagon is working feverishly on an unbelievably expensive way to protect the US fleet of tanks.

President Joe Biden on Tuesday announced plans to supply new air defenses to Ukraine in a speech opening the NATO summit – providing much-needed support for the country at a critical juncture in its defense against Russia’s invasion.

The US, Germany, and Romania will each provide a Patriot battery of their own, while the Netherlands will work with other countries to enable an additional Patriot battery, each country announced in a joint statement. Meanwhile, Italy would also provide a SAMP-T long-range air defense system.

The statement said the air-defense systems “will help to protect Ukrainian cities, civilians, and soldiers, and we are coordinating with the Ukrainian government so that these systems can be utilized rapidly.”

During his speech on Tuesday, Biden vowed that “the United States will make sure that when we export critical air defense interceptors, Ukraine goes to the front of the line.”

“They will get this assistance before anyone else gets it,” Biden added.

THere are no hospitals to carry the wounded to. There are no medical supplies. There are no medics. The soldiers are lucky if they have a weapon and ammunition and food. It was a mercy killing.

That was such a selfless act by the shooter. He might have needed that round to save his own life or end his own life.

US intelligence discovered earlier this year that the Russian government planned to assassinate the chief executive of a powerful German arms manufacturer that has been producing artillery shells and military vehicles for Ukraine, according to five US and western officials familiar with the episode.

The plot was one of a series of Russian plans to assassinate defense industry executives across Europe who were supporting Ukraine’s war effort, these sources said. The plan to kill Armin Papperger, a white-haired goliath who has led the German manufacturing charge in support of Kyiv, was the most mature.

When the Americans learned of the effort, they informed Germany, whose security services were then able to protect Papperger and foil the plot. A high-level German government official confirmed that Berlin was warned about the plot by the US.

Back in 2015, just after Russia's initial invasion of Ukraine, Bulgaria and Slovakia was selling ammo to Ukraine, the GRU blew up an ammo dump in Slovakia and they tried to off the Bulgarian arms dealer making the sales.

That’s one reason I am so firm about voting Dem. I can’t imagine the U.S. walking away from Ukraine given the circumstances.

When I see Trumpers that are fine with doing just that, I can’t help but wonder if they have the same way of dealing with their personal friends. Fair weather friends is a term that comes to mind.

I doubt Europe conscripts. Putin attacking NATO is still a ridiculous proposition as of now.

At the same time it’s nice to see NATO starting to ramp up their defenses. American hegemony is great but NATO counted on that too much and got lax. It’s about time they brought their fighting capabilities up to snuff.
