On most cases, I didn't see any time for "make them pay". I doubt any other quarterback would have done better with those blitzes. There was simply not time.
On the 7 hero balls he chucked down the field, there were plenty of open wrs in the intermediate. He basically wasted 7 plays playing hero ball.

I’m genuinely shocked the line is 16.5. They are going to blitz up straight up the middle and Milroe will just stand there. We will probably still win, but it won’t be pretty. UGA is a whole other discussion. Unless something changes in a big way, they will run us out of the stadium the way Texas did in the 4th quarter last year.
We will probably out talent Wisconsin yes. But UGA is going to prep for Milroe unlike anything we've seen. Their athletes will be feasting.

IMO, the offensive line and the playcalling in the 2nd and 3rd quarter are mostly to blame for our struggles last night. The routes were repeatedly downfield and we seemed determined to hit deep bombs - and I don’t think that was exclusively Milroe going for the hero play. I saw several plays in which we were basically running 3 or 4 verticals with nothing underneath - and that’s a recipe for disaster when the defense is hell-bent on sending LBs and DBs screaming off the edge. The jumbled-up offensive line looked discombobulated most of the night and Formby struggled in particular against the edge rushers. I thought there were several plays in which Milroe found the correct receiver on an intermediate route (when we finally started calling them). Milroe still showed some of the same tendencies that have driven us crazy - the 20-yard sack was particularly bad - but he threw the ball away several times and didn’t throw any picks in the face of a ridiculous amount of pressure.
The defensive game plan we saw last night is USF’s default game plan under Todd Orlando - it’s a feast or famine approach. I’m not sure every team we face will replicate it. I think getting Proctor back and sliding Booker back to guard will change things tremendously. Obviously the officiating was terrible last night and didn’t help matters.

On the positive side, I think the defense has played extremely well for the first two games and seems to have settled in to Wommack’s system more quickly that I would have guessed. USF was a good test simply because of the blazing tempo they run - we won’t face another team in the regular season that will run plays as quickly as they did. To hold them to 16 points, especially considering how many red zone trips they made, was impressive. That’s a better team than I think people realize, and they’ll contend for the AAC title this season.

Just like the USF game last year, our defense won the game.

Kirby will not be dumb enough to do what he did in the SECCG last year with Milroe. Instead of ”spying” him, he is going biltz Milroe from the time they step off the bus.
Last year, I thought we had a decent chance against UGA because Saban is simply Kirby’s krytponite. I never thought he would be so stupid to use TWO SPIES on Milroe. It’s almost like he didn’t watch any film on him at all. I was truly flabbergasted.

Now, I haven’t been this sure of a Bama loss since the 2006 season.

And this notion that Milroe did great is confusing to me. He simply did not do great. He looked like a freshman QB getting overwhelmed.
I don’t get it either. He is objectively bad against the blitz. In 2021, Bryce was the best QB in college football against the blitz. If he played last night, the final score likely would have been similar, but the game would have looked ENTIRELY different. Adams and Law would have feasted under Bryce.

Milroes history says he's going to get pummeled vs UGA. They will blitz constantly and he will be lost back there. Taking hit after hit. They will come at him like buzzsaws flying at him.

Bryce would have made them pay for blitzing, they'd have eventually backed off and then the run game takes over.

I bet the USF coaches said in prep last week....let's blitz him until he can prove he can hurt us. Then during the game, realizing he had no answer...and saying....let's turn up the heat even more.

CKD missed an opportunity to teach JM last night after the 20 yard sack. I really believe he should have brought TS in for a series or two to settle JM down but also send a message that he better step us his play or he will see the sideline more...
At this point, I’m trying to figure out what Ty has done to keep getting shafted in favor of Milroe. He did enough to earn the start against Ole Miss last year. I mean, did he murder a bunch of younglings at the Jedi Temple or something? All we need is a Carson Beck type QB. Ty can do that.

Some of us needs to go back and watch the tapes: Few things I noticed tonight:

1. They blitzed us on 3rd downs so much, and the they brought on more than what OL could handle. This happened way too much tonight. What I don't understand why the Offense didn't make adjustments by calling for screen passes/ quick passes playcalls in that situation?

2. Fromby struggled tonight. I don't have the numbers, but I believe he was beaten all night long and that created more issues for Jalen and the RBs.

3. I don't think tonight was necessarily on Jalen. It's hard to make the plays when the protections break down so fast. There was some decisions he made tonight I wish he could taken back though. on the option plays.. 90 percent of the time he pulls the ball. out of 90 percents... he should've given the ball to RB maybe 60 percent of the time tonight.

The playcalling by OC wasn't very good tonight.

4. I'm not worried about Defense, but some of the playcall was little too conservative. Lot of zone defense to help out the young CBs. Red Morgan has got to get better quick.

5. Pritchett in place of Fromby was way better tonight and he played hurt.

I think we'll be fine.
This is totally on Jalen. The OC calls plays Jalen will actually run, and not just stand there, or worse, run backwards. You blamed Rees last year, and now suddenly an offensive coaching staff can’t call plays either? Come on

You stop them from blitzing by throwing short and quick where the blitzes come from. You know what Jalen struggles at? You guessed it, the horizontal quick throws. Take the passes to Outz and Adams, both of which were not good and cost yardage after the catch. He also missed a slant.

The offensive line will never be able to block 6 with 5, or 7 with 6, so if you’re waiting for that to happen, please don’t hold your breath. Absolutely they struggled, even when they didn’t Alabama went backwards.

Just save us all some time and just post, “Not Jalen’s fault.” It never seems to be, unless people are pointing at the scoreboard. He gets none of the blame and all of the accolades.

I don't care for playing school that are "supposed to lose" because the coach knows he can do things strategically that are not defensible. SF threw virtually everyone at the QB on every play leaving the entire secondary open. I think that's why Milro kept getting sucked into the long ball because it was all there. But the DB's were told to just hold anyone who was getting lose. I know Williams would have had another long TD but he was being held all the way and somehow this overefficious crew missed the most obvious call of the day. If the crew hadn't been so tight on the holding calls, if Forby hadn't played, if we hadn't had to go with a rearranged OL this strategy of theirs would have resulted in a bigger blowout than last week. But when you're supposed to lose you can do anything stupid, nobody blames you if it doesn't work, if it does work they call you a great coach.

I was a little disappointed with Milro falling back into his habits of running backwards in the pocket. On the biggest sack of the night the entire right side of the field was open. Nobody would have been in the camera shot with him until he'd cleared the first down marker by 10 yards. He has the speed to get to the sideline but for some reason his instinct is to run the wrong way. I hope this is just rust and he will see the film and slap himself in the face for it and focus on using the gift God gave him to get away.

I do think our OC is still learning. I hope he learns quickly.

pretty proud of the defense. They had open guys deep. We need to assume those will be 6 against UGA.

They have payed too much money to Milroe is my belief. We are seeing NFL dynamics where a better player on the bench doesnt see the field...

I mean technically, it IS the coaches’ fault for continuing to play Milroe. Sheridan was yelling something that I can’t repeat on TideFans after the fumbled snap. I’m just like “Well, YOU put him under center. Why?”

The root cause of 90% of our problems the last two years is plain as day, but even professional evaluators are obsessed with him. He’s just another Anthony Richardson, but people refuse to see it. I have almost given up trying to convince people. I could make an hour long video showing tons of examples where he makes the wrong read and people would just say “He’s going to win the Heisman”. Even in the USF preview, Jess said “Milroe is in the thick of Heisman trophy race”. #1…it’s week 2. #2…WHAT?

We also learned last night that officials will call offensive holding on every play but will not call defensive holding on every play. If you dont think this is a recipe for disaster in upcoming games then...

The problem(s) are pretty simple, but at this stage of his career I believe they are not fixable. It is about recognition and reaction. Even on most of the deep “hero balls”, Milroe is late.

JM is what he is at this point. CKD has to decide if what he gets, both good and bad, is what he wants.
