A middle school offensive coordinator knows to call quick slant on blitzes it’s not the O coordinator fault. I’m not watching the field cam so maybe our WR we’re running 15 yard routes on hot blitzes but I doubt it. Shep/deboer is a better coach than that. And it would have to mean that the WR last year under Wiggins/saban didn’t know either. Just hard to believe.
ExactlyWhich is more likely, a coach with the offensive prowess of DeBoer goes an entire game of not doing one thing to mitigate the blitz or the players not being able to execute the plan he has in place for the blitz? One is exponentially more likely than the other.
This post came across somewhat argumentative to me. That's not what I'm trying to say here. I looked at the film again last night and I'm still going to stand by what I said. There's lot of things that went wrong on the offense, and Not all is on Jalen. I still stand by that. This is me presenting opinion from neutral perspective. I looked at OL, QB, WR and RBs. I have to factor lot of things into the game film:
1) Play calling was very conservative. We all say, "Why not call for quick passes" For him to execute the play calling, He actually has to get that play call from OC. It's not like he can walk up to the OL and say "Hey guys, I'm throwing a quick pass slant to Williams!"
Lot of issues we had on OL were this: Inability to pick up the blitzes and Fromby struggling all night long. It starts and ends with OL.
Jalen does deserve some of the blame for some of the struggles on the offense and I did say that. People are so quick to blame Jalen, but refuse to acknowledge the fact the issues may be on OL, playcalling and etc. That's the point right there:
Bottom line: I am not concerned at all and I still stand by the fact Jalen will be just fine and will be in NYC in December.
2) The fact we moved the ball late in the game was due to taking Fromby out and replacing him with Pritchett and he was hurt but still played. Offense suddenly was much better.
Nobody has to agree with me.... and that's perfectly fine. I stated my opinion, and I based it on what I saw during the game and rewatched the game again. I took emotion out of it and looked at it from neutral perspective. I will always defend Jalen and at same time will criticize him if needed. I always find the balance in both. It doesn't do anyone good to criticize all the time and never find anything positive in a person or a team.
Agreed. Maybe he thought we could try that alignment against a team like USF for practice, who knows. I’m still convinced Gol*ing loses that game, so Wommack gets points for that.
The defense should have gotten a game ball and a steak dinner. The offense should have stayed and had a three hour practice. If our backups are that much of a dropoff they need as many practices as they can get.
I keep seeing complaints about Jefferson’s targeting ejection. He met the requirements and was tossed. The rule is to protect the tackler in his situation from compressing vertebrae and paralyzing himself. If he hits with the screws at the top of his facemask, there’s no penalty. He dropped his head. It sucks cause he’s a baller. Maybe he’ll learn.
You make a very good point. I have seen this in other cases where there would have been no targeting if the offensive player didn't lower his headThe problem I have with the call is that the quarterback lowers his head just before impact. Why is the defensive player only at fault in that situation. The quarterback was committing the exact same offense and can cause the same harm as a result.
The issue I take with your literally constant nagging about Milroe is you act like he's the ONLY issue. I don't see anyone here claiming he's Young or Tua, or even Hurts - but when we say "you know, it's not ALL JM's fault" you guys act like we just anointed JM as the greatest QB ever. It's all so black and white, so binary with y'all it's difficult to try talk football here sometimes as all you do is gripe about JM, as if there weren't other contributing factors. If the QB isn’t the problem, then why doesn’t every single team always blitz every other QB? You know why, because they will get burned by any competent college QB.
I played OL in HS and you can tell some here didn't. It's arguably the most cerebral position to play, and requires true TEAM effort to work well. When the OL is good, everyone looks pretty good, but when the OL is bad, everyone looks pretty bad.I don't think most people realizes that. It's not easy playing with shuffled lines... Chemistry is a huge factor when putting together OL group.
Couple of thoughts on that:
- Very often in this game, like every other game JM has played, there were short and intermediate routes called from the OC and JM overlooked them to try to do something else.
- Yes, the QB actually should go up to the LOS and change the call at the LOS if he sees something he needs to account for. It's so common that there is actually a term for it: Calling an Audible. Every QB we've had since I can remember has been able to do this except JM. I watch HS guys do it all the time. JM doesn't.
I said the OL was a problem. You are not reading my posts, full stop. The issue I take with your literally constant nagging about Milroe is you act like he's the ONLY issue. It's so tiresome. Every thread about anything gets hijacked by you guys.
Somebody, think it was OJ , said that all running backs are the same without a good O line. Lousy.I played OL in HS and you can tell some here didn't. It's arguably the most cerebral position to play, and requires true TEAM effort to work well. When the OL is good, everyone looks pretty good, but when the OL is bad, everyone looks pretty bad.
Both touchdown runs were on the right. There’s really no way you can argue against Pritchett not making a difference on those. So, had Pritchett not come in we still would've scored those points and the offense would've looked the same as when he did come into the game? The narrative of what had happened one minute earlier doesn't support that.
