If anyone has played oline you would know the tackles in the college game are already at disadvantage. It’s the hardest job in football at 300 pounds to get hands on a quick d end and keep off qb. Especially when he has nothing else to worry about only get up field and rush the passer. With milroe not stepping up into the natural pocket you get what you get last year with proctor and last night.

On the touchdown play to Prentice he did step up in pocket. Maybe the best play I have seen him make ever and gives me some hope.

Kirby mistake last year was the to not change on defense and let his players get up field. He kept them at the line of scrimmage and JM did good against that. Compare to the Michigan game with them coming hard up the field.

Jefferson’s ejection was a “letter of the law” call. That type of tackle has no business ejecting the player. You want to penalize him? Fine, I guess. But now he’s out the first half against Wisconsin for literally no reason.
All he has to do is keep his eyes up and it's not a penalty. Have to see what you are hitting

This post came across somewhat argumentative to me. That's not what I'm trying to say here. I looked at the film again last night and I'm still going to stand by what I said. There's lot of things that went wrong on the offense, and Not all is on Jalen. I still stand by that. This is me presenting opinion from neutral perspective. I looked at OL, QB, WR and RBs. I have to factor lot of things into the game film:

1) Play calling was very conservative. We all say, "Why not call for quick passes" For him to execute the play calling, He actually has to get that play call from OC. It's not like he can walk up to the OL and say "Hey guys, I'm throwing a quick pass slant to Williams!"

Lot of issues we had on OL were this: Inability to pick up the blitzes and Fromby struggling all night long. It starts and ends with OL.

Jalen does deserve some of the blame for some of the struggles on the offense and I did say that. People are so quick to blame Jalen, but refuse to acknowledge the fact the issues may be on OL, playcalling and etc. That's the point right there:

Bottom line: I am not concerned at all and I still stand by the fact Jalen will be just fine and will be in NYC in December.

2) The fact we moved the ball late in the game was due to taking Fromby out and replacing him with Pritchett and he was hurt but still played. Offense suddenly was much better.

Nobody has to agree with me.... and that's perfectly fine. I stated my opinion, and I based it on what I saw during the game and rewatched the game again. I took emotion out of it and looked at it from neutral perspective. I will always defend Jalen and at same time will criticize him if needed. I always find the balance in both. It doesn't do anyone good to criticize all the time and never find anything positive in a person or a team.
I’m not berating or belittling you for your opinion. I’m responding directly to your points with my counterpoints.

Can anyone who blames the play calling explain why two totally different coaching staffs call the same plays other than that’s what the quarterback will run?

I'd be ok with the Defensive players getting that dinner, but not the coordinators. I think we had a lot of players play totally lights out - Campbell, Jefferson, Keenan and Moore just to name a few. I just think Wommack did some things that made the players jobs a bit harder than it should have been.

At this stage the offense as a whole played so bad I'm good with defensive coaches getting steaks. They seemed to at least make adjustments.

On a positive note I feel like D played great. That’s a tough offense to matchup with spread out small splits yes we took some lumps but we pressured the qb our backers were wore out but stayed in and made plays. Yes a team like that will break some runs against us but it’s a tradeoff the qb doesn’t get to sit back and pick us apart.

The thing is, most college kids these days do see that as leadership. They’re wrong of course, but that’s hardly relevant.
Agree.
You want a great example of leadership on the football field? Landon Dickerson! When was the last time you saw a player get hurt and literally the whole team came onto the field to see them off? We need more of that!

I slept on it. Here are my thoughts:

In general, I have no complaints. Brand new coaching staff with only two holdovers, replacing the greatest of all time. Who, by the way, still lives and breaths and is on every other commercial playing on tv today. He attends the games. They just honored him by adding his name to the stadium/field. That’s just a tiny bit of pressure.

I do see the issues that everyone else sees. But what I’m not seeing is a lack of effort. Guys are fighting through frustration and mistakes. Which means they must have taken to Coach DeBoer and his staff to some degree already. This is good.

But in the long term, stuff like the penalties and fumbles have to get cleaned up or we aren’t doing any better than 8-4 and you can forget the playoffs. Because the tough teams on our schedule have established coaching staffs and systems in place.

So all of that being said, I still have nothing but positive expectations. I think this team is really good, it needs to stay healthy, and it needs to keep gelling with the new staff. And we will be ok.

Finally! Some objective thinking on this board. Refreshing!

That’s one very important difference in this game and last year’s game. I did not see any lack of effort this year, far from it.

Thank you! I am so tired of this crap. Just because he plays for Bama does not mean we should lie to ourselves and have blinders on. The guy does not know how to play QB.
Did anyone see Tennessee's Defense and very good QB last night dominate a very good QB for NC State? Did they see Quinn Ewers against Michigan and the throws he made? Bama will need to move the ball, make some 1st downs and keep some great offenses off the field or games will get out of reach! I know eeyore right! I do know we don't play Texas. Thank goodness for that!
Georgia will be enough thank you.

I hear you. And I don't doubt UT in Knoxville will be one of the toughest (if not THE toughest) games on the schedule.

But never put in any stock in NC State. They are perennially "almost there." It never pans out. At least not in my lifetime.

This was one of the more egregious examples of the over-litigation of targeting that I have seen. There was NO WAY Jefferson could have done anything differently to avoid that hit. Nothing.
