It was good, but no where near Pruitt's level of defense. Not even in the same ballpark.

He had one season to fix the mental weakness that Golding had instilled in the program. No, not Pruitt level, but definitely championship level by the end of the season.

Yes I do. But I don't repeat them to the point of obsessive as you seem to continue to do. The catastrophic thinking is real and seems to be the back drop of your every post. Our running game has been missing for years. We almost had a player mutiny over not starting a QB that could only tuck & run or bomb it deep, or handle a snap. We had a center that couldn't get off a clean snap. Offensive line recruits have been a bust for years. Et cetera. And don't get me started on the "anxiety" issues. I love Saban, and appreciate all he has done for the university, but people sure liked to overlook that the foundation was crumbling.

Some bumps in the road after a coaching change are expected. We are seeing those, perhaps after thinking we would not because of beating Georgia again. I too have faith in DeBoer but the game has changed and we aren't going back to the good ole days.

I don’t disagree, but you are comparing Steele’s one and only year, to what was likely literally Pruitt’s best defense.

Lost in this shuffle somewhat is whether we can learn to enjoy this new style of football brinksmanship.

We are used to teams that demolish any non-top-10 team, and comfortably beat anyone not top-3.

If this is the new landscape, then we must learn to enjoy the back-and-forth and last-minute heroics and collapses of modern football. This has been the reality for every team not named Alabama since the beginning of football.

While acknowledging there are serious flaws, and that there could be coordinator and position coach changes at season end, we have what we have, and must learn to live with it. Hoping for the best, and not expecting the worst, exactly, but I'm tempering my expectations this year.

No, most everyone recognized the cracks in the armor pre-2020, but the 2020 offense covered a lot of sins. Saban was losing control of his dominance the last five years of his tenure. Most people could see it but wasn't going to take the conversation to the point of some who wanted to hijack the entire board with conversations the program is in fee fall and everybody needs to run.

We now live in a landscape of CFB that not even Saban could find a "cheat code" for, so he retired. He knew his dominance was over and he was correct in thinking that way. It was a historic run probably never to be seen again in CFB.

Isn't Jeremy Pruitt an assistant coach on a mediocre high school football team in rural Alabama (seriously...not making a joke)? It's hard for me to believe he's still a viable option for a major college program. Seems like he was the right guy for a season, but unlikely he has a future in major college football.

For Alabama fans, getting used to being just another contender is going the be the toughest part. Alabama was in title contention as THE force to be overcome every year for 17 straight years. 17 years in which Alabama was still in title contention until the very last games of the season were played. 9 championship game appearances.

That dominance will likely never be seen again.

Now Alabama is just another team, fighting and clawing for players, coaches and wins.
