Again, sure, they're human. We're all that way in our areas of expertise. But the successful ones are right a lot more than not.I stopped thinking like that when Saban kept Tua on the bench for Hurts. Sometimes the coaches are wrong.

We agree, but with respect Milroe there is another factor - team chemistry. If the team gets behind one guy, you risk everything by choosing someone else.Again, sure, they're human. We're all that way in our areas of expertise. But the successful ones are right a lot more than not.
I guess my feeling on this is that if Ty looked a LOT better in practice Saban and or DeBoer would have played him. That doesn't mean Ty isn't better right now but he must not be showing that he is significantly better. But what do I know?We agree, but with respect Milroe there is another factor - team chemistry. Saban let the team choose Milroe last year. DeBoer let the team choose Milroe this year.
I sincerely believe that they both believed that Milroe gave Alabama the best chance to win. But not because he was the best QB.
Sometimes you have to play a guy. Milroe is that guy.

The thing that keeps popping in my head is all the insiders last year saying "There is no Tua/Bryce/Mac on this roster" They said it time and time again. At this point I feel like I am forced to believe them.
I don't think the fans did no. I have no idea what Saban and Co really thought but I have a feeling they were fairly high on Mac.maybe so, but does anyone really think we knew what we had in Mac before he started in 2020? He'd done ok in relief when Tua went down, but it's not like we KNEW he was gonna go all scorched earth on all of college football the next year.
The word from the people who have watched the summer practices the last two years has always been that Ty looked a little bit better, but not a lot better. And I get it (while I don't agree with it), It was Milroe's job to lose, and Ty had to look a lot better. However, when Milroe begins to struggle like he has, at some point, Fy looking a little bit better every single time, has to count for something. And that's really what baffles me. We've been doing this dance for 21 games now, and we're still at the exact same place we were in August of '23.I guess my feeling on this is that if Ty looked a LOT better in practice Saban and or DeBoer would have played him. But regardless, by that standard you never know anything and at that point what is even the point of talking about it.

I personally think "which QB is better" is the wrong question. It doesn't really matter if Ty is "better" than Milroe. Having a QB who can operate the offense, and make reads, can make such a huge difference, beyond just being a good passer.
That's the part you were addressing. But I actually did included Saban and DeBoer in my post. The 2 paragraphs were connected in how I reached my current conclusion so yes I brought up Saban again.ok, but your original statement wasn't about Saban and Co, it was about 'insiders'. I don't recall insiders talking up Mac that much. that's the point.
We don’t need those guys, we need a gmac, AJ, or Coker to distribute the ball to all our NFL talent.I guess my feeling on this is that if Ty looked a LOT better in practice Saban and or DeBoer would have played him. If Ty transfers, they will have to portal someone regardless, just for depthWe won't have to wait till next year to find out what the staff thinks. If we decide not to portal in a one year rental QB, then that will tell us that the staff really does love Ty. If he transfers, and we portal someone in, then maybe the detractors were right
Yeah I don't disagree. But maybe Ty isn't that. Idk 🤷â€Â♂ï¸Â.We don’t need those guys, we need a gmac, AJ, or Coker to distribute the ball to all our NFL talent.
GMac, with his cerebral faculties, would've been incredible in CKD's offense. We don’t need those guys, we need a gmac, AJ, or Coker to distribute the ball to all our NFL talent.

I suspect that there is some pop psychology going on.For me it's either one of two things and one is not so bad and the other means we're in trouble at the QB position.
1. CKD, like Saban, is loyal to his starter and it takes A LOT for him to pull him.
2. Ty Simpson simply isn't good enough to trust with a series or two in a game when the game still matters.
If number two is the case we're in big trouble at the QB position and better hope Milroe comes back next season so Austin Mack and the new kid in the 2025 class can start developing.
Strange thing, but if GA had more game film on Tua, maybe we don't beat them in the 2018 NC game.Different coaches view changing QB's differently. You've got people like Saban, who was very loyal to his starter, and long after people thought Hurts should have been pulled, he's still playing, we're still struggling on offense, and Tua is sitting there twiddling his thumbs. Whereas someone like Sarkisian would have long pulled him and put in Tua. Heck, Sark pulled Ewers in the UGA and inserted Manning just to try and change momentum. It didn't work, but that's not the point. Sarks "trigger" on pulling a QB is much quicker than Saban's. Saban would have NEVER done that in a regular season game. It took it being a title game and assistant coaches convincing him to do it. And it worked. But he was on the verge of letting the entire ship sink over one QB.
I have no idea what type of coach CKD is when it comes that. It seems he is very loyal to his starter, and there is nothing wrong with that. If that's who you are, then that's who you are. But personally, I would have been strategically giving series to Simpson post USCe game for two reasons. One, is to give Milroe some time on the sidelines to watch and send a subtle message that this job isn't yours just because you show up, and two, to send a message to the team that "I give opportunities when the starter isn't performing". It also gives Simpson a head start on next season much like Mac Jones got those end of the season reps in 2019 that definitely helped him in 2020.

They were shellshocked by his performance in that game.

I do think it is possible that Ty is better but just not good enough to bench Milroe who clearly has been a leader within the team. Idk. It's all guessing at this point.
I do think we should maybe temper expectations for Ty if/when he does start though. Maybe others are right and he'll be a gamer when he gets his chance but I just wouldn't bet on it at this point.
