Is there a scenario where we still back into the playoffs?

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

And Auburn is still a 5-7 team playing at BDS. Right now you are basically putting fan glasses on and expecting a committee of non Alabama people to say “ Alabama beating a 5-7 Auburn at home is impressive”. IDK if they are going to ignore two mediocre to bad performances against teams seeking bowl eligibility in back to back weeks where we turned the ball over 7 times.

If we get in it’s basically because they want to punish Miami for losing twice in a cake schedule. We have had a whopping one great game since the Georgia game. If we are left out then we only have ourselves to blame, and we won’t have any room to complain about getting left out.
You are of course correct but where are the great games elsewhere? At least among all the at large contenders.

The Big 12 is getting one team in.

There will be one group of 5 team in.

The ACC will get no more than 2 teams in.

Notre Dame is in.

That leaves 7 spots for the Big Ten and SEC.

Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, and Indiana are likely in.

Texas, Georgia, and Tennessee are in.

I don’t see a spot for Alabama….
Good summary. IMO, the ACC only gets one in. Miami beat not one ranked team - I think, not sure. The SEC appears to be the strongest conf by far, with ~7 or 8 teams on par with the avg playoff team. If SOS means anything the SEC has got to get 4 in.

If the SEC is to get four teams in then we are in the mix with Ole Miss and South Carolina.

IMO, Carolina is out due to the head to head losses to both us and Ole Miss.

Ole Miss losing to Kentucky and Florida is as bad or worse than us losing to Vandy and OU. The UK loss was in Oxford too. Then they lose to LSU who we destroyed.

I think we are the highest rated 3 loss SEC team.

Does this team really deserve to be in the playoffs? I am looking at Bama thru 66 year old eyes. To be honest I can say I am very proud of the way they played. We havent lost to Vanderbilt and UT since 1955 in the same year, let that set in. I was not born the last time that happened. I am not going to blame 18 to 20 something year old boys. I think the responsibility should be placed on the coaching staff. Kalen Debore may be a winner, but I am not impressed with his passion and toughness as a head coach. I maybe wrong about him but I do not see him being the long term coach we would like. We haven't passed the litmus test in my opinion to be in the playoffs. I have been a lifelong Bama fan and will support the team no matter what. RTR

That’s the point. How have we really separated ourselves from a bunch of 2 and 3 loss teams.
Tell me how they’ve separated themselves from us though?

So it’s the ultimate judgement call by a committee, which has quite honestly given us the benefit of the doubt more often than not.

We are not a great team this year by any definition. But in the 12 team playoff era, you don’t have to be.

The stink of losing to such a bad OU team won’t be washed off. That’s our problem.
Everyone has there warts. South Carolina lost to both of the teams they are fighting for a spot with. Mississippi lost to a Kentucky team that went 1-7 in the conference meaning they lost every other conference game they played. We didn’t show up vs a pretty bad Oklahoma team. Miami has 0 games vs ranked teams.
The question is if you switched the results for Georgia and Oklahoma games are we better off or worse off? Would you rather have a win over Georgia and loss to Oklahoma or a win vs Oklahoma and loss to Georgia?

I don’t want to give up that Georgia win for sure. But I can see how we wouldn’t get as much doubt if we lost a close game to them and blew out OU.

I don’t understand those that don’t want us to make it in. These days in recruiting, you have to get as far as you can make it.
If we get in great, but it will be incredibly tough to make it to the championship game. Likely to have a first game on the road(we haven't been good on the road this year). Also have to be consistently good for consecutive games. We have not done that this year. Very up and down from game to game(heck from half to half). The benefits of getting in are huge....exposure, practice time, recruiting....
But I think if we are left out(and I hope we are not), I bet MIlroe(and likely others) will opt out of a bowl game. That will get some future starters a ton of practice time for a jump start on next year.

By beating one top 7 or 8 team, one top 15 team and another top 20 team. Most playoff teams have beaten 0 or 1 ranked teams.

Yeah and how many were held to 3 points vs a 6 win team that was ready to fire their coach or lost to Vandy. I mean you could talk about all these wins but the committee has shown us week after week they care more about the losses. Heck we were ranked behind Georgia every week between our loss to Vandy and their Loss to Ole Miss. We had far more wins vs ranked teams than them and had the H2H.

Heck the very thought that PSU is a top 5 team is proving they don’t care.

The ‘Bama brand, that’s how. The team might’ve taken their eyes off the prize this season, but TV ratings never take eyes off the prize of ‘Bama game, regular season (including SEC championship game most years) or postseason. And those eyes drive ratings - and the real prize, ad revenue - into the stratosphere. “No, no - forget ‘Bama-ND at the feet of Touchdown Jesus let’s put Boise and SMU in prime time on that mesmerizing puke blue turf—“
