Is there a scenario where we still back into the playoffs?

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

2014 they were given the out that neither TCU and Baylor were Oklahoma or Texas. So very few would care that Ohio St got in over them. Last year they took a gamble by not just putting Alabama over FSU but also Texas. I really think Georgia may have truly been the one to have gotten screwed.

Exactly.

Plus, the shady tactic the Big 12 used of "One True Champion" and then trying to make sure at least one team got in there by crowning two teams champions ("with an emphasis on conference championships") likely made the committee say, "Oh really? Well, have we got a surprise for you."

Ohio State DID move up because of the brand name, let's be honest.

But they were ALSO a good team, and TCU should have left no doubt by beating Baylor.

Let me throw this one out there:

In 2022, we had the whole mess with TCU (1-loss but not a conf champ) and Alabama (2 losses).

Do you think that if we had:
a) BEATEN Tennessee but
b) LOST to aTm without Bryce

.....that we make the playoff that year?

The committee could have plausibly said, "Alabama had a narrow loss without their Heisman winning QB, and thus there is every reason to believe as he is now healthy that they are one of the four best teams in the country" followed by the usual jargon of how many ranked teams we beat yadda yadda.

My fear is that they are going to avoid the debate between “3 loss teams” by putting Miami at 11. Usually the committees take the path of least resistance, and that may just be as simple as # of losses.
Yup

I’m sorry but “playing better right now” is not a playoff metric. We beat them straight up.
u might be right on that but we have heard the committee chair use that language talking with Rece very frequently

IMO! The "eeyores" don't want us to go because they somehow have this fictional pride that they project on to the team and if you can't win it all, then you don't deserve to go at all. When the reality is that they probably work with people that "rib" them on Mondays after an Alabama loss and they can't take it! Then there are those of us that believe that any extra practice or game experience is good for next years team and recruiting. I'll take it if we get in and certainly if we get a good bowl game!

TBH, I'd put SCar in over us. We may have more talent, but they're playing better (and more consistently), regardless of the head to head results.
I get we are all feeling bad because of a 3-loss season -- but two teams with the same record, head to head is always the first tie-breaker...always!

I get that the committee doesn't use a pre-determined tie-breaker approach... BUT -- I don't want to live in a world where (everything else is equal) - head-to-head isn't the main tiebreaker.

The other thing -- I keep hearing about like opponents - and how USCe did vs Vandy, OU

But -- what about the other "like" opponents? LSU (they lost),MIssouri, they won by 4...?

USCe -- also missed Texas, Georgia on their schedule - AND lost to Ole Miss, and LSU..

Bama Opponents Records in 2024 - 92-52
USCe Opponents Records in 2024 - 82-52

Their best win is vs Clemson? All other top 20 teams they played, they lost - (Assuming Texas 8&4 isn't in the top 20 next week)

I'm not seeing how they get in...
