Is there a scenario where we still back into the playoffs?

SEC made a bad mistake by giving Tex such a cushy schedule. They have always expected special treatment and if they win the conference inaugural year will want more gifts. I hope UGA skull drags them
Oklahoma was supposed to have been better than they were

It cannot be true that conference championship losers will not be punished. UNLV beating Boise State would be the litmus test. If they'd put 2 teams from the Mountain West in the playoff it would be a joke and demonstrate that the format can be thrown in the trash can.
Again, the committee did not say the conference championship game losers would not be punished. They said they would not be "unduly punished". It's a critical difference.

Yes, we'll know on Sunday what they mean. If SMU was in the playoff before the conference championship but out of the playoff after the conference championship I'm sure their fans will claim they were unduly punished. I have a feeling Clemson is going to win that game. Dabo has the experience of getting his team ready to play a big game while SMU may have a case of nerves.

Did they really say that, I mean great if that's the case, then they will just move around the teams playing next weekend amongst their current positions?
Can someone else who watched it confirm this? I understood him to say that the rankings are totally static among teams that aren't playing next Saturday.

This is where I'm confused. The guy on the show said very simply that any team that's not playing this weekend will not change their position. Period.

So IF I understood that correctly, then why does the outcome of Clemson vs SMU matter?

But if I misunderstood, then can someone explain it to me?
He was speaking in relation to each other. In other words, teams that are not playing will not change the order of ranking in relation to each other but could be moved depending on the outcomes of the Championship games. Bama will not be jumped by any team currently ranked behind them that are not playing this week. 👍🏻

Ok, just rewatched, nothing will change with order of not playing teams - Reese caveated his clarification question with unless a lower ranked team gets a bid and moves up - and answer was in context of order of currently ranked teams.

That answer makes sense and we'll ultimately have to see how the acc game plays out - also think that's the only game that could impact us, and might not if its a large margin. But I don't really see any difference in clemson/smu/miami, their schedules were all bad so with miami dropping it should follow that a losing smu would fall next to them.

Fwiw, Ole Miss and USC should both be ahead of miami. Just using committee logic, definitely ole miss since their resume is similar to ours

Maybe just trying to dodge the backlash

Bama SC Miss Miami would have made life easier for them imo
Agree, that seems to be the case. Doesn't make sense to me to not have at least old miss ahead, since just a hair difference between us, but usc should really be ahead if them too. Not sure if that sets good for us is smu loses and could drop under miami or allowing for possible two crappy acc teams in. Looking for logic, but not necessarily going to be found

Interesting to note.....Heather Dinish says:

Why they should be worried: If the ACC and Big 12 champions are both ranked outside of the committee's top 12 on Selection Day, the Tide will get bumped out of the bracket along with No. 12-ranked Miami to make room for the fourth- and fifth-highest ranked conference champions.

ESPN Analytics says: Alabama has a 38.5% chance to reach the CFP, the tenth-best chance in the country.

She also says SMU could possibly stay in with a loss to Clemson.

But...we are now up to a 38.5% chance apparently.

I have no idea how she is still employed.

38.5% seems way too low. Maybe they're assuming we need both Boise State and SMU to win but I'm not sure we do.

If they wanted to leave Bama out they could have easily done so this week - there would have been virtually no pushback outside of Bama fans.
Agree I think this very strong for us, coupled with sankeys message. Anything can happen, but seems less likely we would see an sec or big 10 team drop out of projections next week regardless of the championship games.

I reminded you guys after the Sooners loss that Alabama was still in the hunt. One more week. One more hurdle. Roll Tide Roll
That, you did. You were called crazy by some, and doubted by most. With all due respect to @JessN, he basically said there was 0% chance as well.

He also claims Milroe is gone next year regardless. We shall see. Roll Tide!
