Alabama also contributed to the two coaches Georgia had that led them to national championships. Never understood how so many people in Georgia think it’s so superior to Alabama when it really just looks like more Alabama when you’re driving there.
yeah, I've been over here in GA since 96. I tell folks all the time the only thing that made GA, was getting the international airport, and that causing the rise of ATL through the olympics later. Take that airport away and it's mississippi or worse.
The story I've read on TideFans is Delta approached B'ham and ATL and B'ham leaders didn't want to make the effort and ATL did.
Imagine if B'ham gets the hub and how that changes the whole state. Not sure it would be for the best (in terms of living in ALA) but it would be very different.

I think the good/decent people of Alabama that witnessed the civil rights movement in Alabama in the 1960 (thinking of my mom here) really made a difference in the next generation of Alabamians.Before my Junior year started in HS, dad got transferred ... to Upstate NY. I thank God for her raising me the way she did. This is NOT me tootin my own horn that I'm perfectly righteous in this area, but who I am was shaped by her (and my dad too) who went thru those difficult times.
If I'm not mistaken, there's a similar story as to why Six Flags isn't in Birmingham.
This was part of it. The other part was the turmoil surrounding the city of Birmingham and the civil rights movement, primarily the hate being spewed by Arthur Hanes, Bull Connor and the like. Atlanta, while dealing with similar issues, still found a way to seek reconciliation and find solutions.
When I tell people to go compare populations of the two cities in the 1960 census, most are shocked to see Birmingham was actually the larger city. By the 1970 census, Atlanta had exploded.

I've heard this a lot and while I do not endorse race prejudice anywhere, a few years ago, the "lovely young lady" who showed her UA sorority sisters how much she liked to use the n-word was from New Jersey.
UA invited her to go home.
Birmingham has made the same mistake so many large cities have, and they have still not fixed their issues starting with building too many large roads/interstates to help people commute in and out of the city taking their tax dollars with them. However, Atlanta has done some the same, but they have had much more positive politics during the same time, save for Deliverance.
i'm glad we have hartsfield-jackson here, but would have no problem at all with six flags relocating to alabama
I have a few members of my family who are incredibly intelligent and have engineering degrees.
I got through Physics IV at University before I changed my major but no one would guess that about any of us because of our Hee Haw accents.
You ought to see people’s contorted faces if one my cousins starts trying to explain the Formula to the God equation.
It’s like they are looking at a Donkey speaking English.
The biggest mistake most people make is equating a southern accent with being uneducated/unintelligent (and many uneducated people are actually intelligent).
Hopefully huff is next and bama forks over whatever it takes to get them.

No doubt there are plenty of smart people in the South. The core problem is too many in the South are proud of their ignorance, and it sadly shows up in the elected officials who on a daily basis demonstrate that ignorance (see Senator Tubberville for example A).
