I'm wondering more about "How did we *play* differently than we did in that game (and maybe the Mich game, too)?

When that memory is in our minds of lazy-looking tackling and horribly-timed penalties, it's hard when THOSE things aren't significantly better. And from my perspective, other than Ty (and a few others) appearing to stay confident/fight, I can't think of much we actually *did* that was better than that effort back in Nov

Competition level dictates a lot of that. As far as what we did better in your category, we saw more aggressiveness in the 2nd half on both sides of the ball, we protected the QB at times, we looked like we could force our will on a defense early. Not sure because I can’t recall all of the UA-OU game. I will say that what I saw in the second half gives me hope going forward - it was much different from the first half.

I think it’s time to admit that our strength and conditioning program is substandard. I’m not seeing much being said about it, but we looked really weak out there tonight. The ease in which their backs were breaking tackles was mystifying.

I think our DL depth is poor. Without Keenan FSU pushed our front 7 around at will. Our first TFL was in the 4th quarter…..

Easttexastide is right...3-3-5 is a losing line up vs a running quarterback and run first offense...and we didn't change...watching LSU ..they go with 4 and bring LBs to the ball

I've been overly harsh on the DeBoer hire at times, it hasn't been all bad, there have been highs as well (Georgia, LSU, and Missouri last year for example) but this staff is obviously in a rut and has some serious stuff to work through. All that time to prepare for Michigan and FSU and this was the result? Not worthy of their salary, but he'll have the season to either total the Ferrari has was given to drive or to get it back on the road.

As far as your observation, my unease came from following Washington closely as well. Alabama needed help to get into the playoff, Washington played late a lot so I caught a lot of their games and it was unimpressive. Penix I was familiar with back from his time at Indiana (when he almost beat Ohio State basically by himself) so I felt like DeBoer was more of an unknown than some thought. I knew Penix was great, I'm not sure about DeBoer, but that I was overjoyed at the prospect of playing Washington in the playoffs and felt like they'd have been a virtual free pass because the team as a whole was generally unimpressive, unreliable defense and a team that totally relied on the QB to bail them out.

As I said before though, DeBoer does pull that rabbit out of a hat now and then though.

This staff is so expensive I'm not sure how easy it would even be to accomplish this no matter how bad the season goes, but I imagine the list would include Lanning, Dabo and Kiffin, all of whom sound more appealing at the moment.

I’m not so sure we haven’t been sold a bill of goods about the actual talent level of this team beyond physical measurables. D looked slow and weak all game and the OL stopped getting any push after the first series.

Until this debacle is cleaned up I’m out. I will find something else to do with my time. Watching this is not healthy.

I keep seeing “competitive” and “prepared mentioned by guys, but tell me how YOU would have game-planned for FSU today. I get there’s “last year”… but the circumstances CKD faced then are different in 25. He’s not handcuffed any longer.

I’m bot saying we don’t have issues, but no coach in America could have come in with a great game plan today unless he totally lucked out.
Good grief, this isn't splitting the atom. FSU will not go undefeated - and Gus's offenses, while quirky and tough to defend, are not indefensible.

Bama out-talents FSU by a wide margin by all subjective measures, so to get man-handled means Bama was outcoached.

That's unacceptable.

Making excuses for this staff and team after last year (actually after the last few years) is whistling past the graveyard.

You can try to sound as objective as you wish, but the results suggest something different...

We were pushed around all night. And looked winded most of the game on defense, at least.

Gameplan should have been for Gus and his tendancies, someone even posted that his Auburn friend pretty much called all the plays...and then bring the intensity and react with speed to what they did.....we did neither, were passive and allowed them to dictate play....that's definitely on the coaches

That’s what I’d do also… but then there’s the Jimmies and Joes to contend with. Like for instance, the OL - announcer said they had a combined 150 starts in CFB. At some point, guys may be better than us and if that’s the case, coaches can’t do anything.

When my son was a junior in HS, I went up to our DC in our third round playoff game when we were getting handled easily. I asked “is there anything I do for you coach?” He said “yeah… go out and find me seven DLs/LBS like they have over on their sideline”. FSU might not be better than us at the end of the year, but they were better today.

I still think we made the best hire we could at the time with the circumstances Saban put us in with the last minute retirement. I hope it works out, but we have a way to go apparently. The “talk” doesn’t match the on field play.

That said, if we lose 3 or 4 games again, I’m gonna tell Greg Byrne to kiss my rear next time he sends out an email begging for NIL money or saying ticket prices are going up.

What little passion I had for college football was pretty much extinguished today.

I tried, but I just am not feeling it. I've been posting quite a lot about this over the last couple of years - the way the game has changed (x-fer portal, pay for play, etc) has basically ruined the sport for me. I had hoped watching the game today would get me fired up, but in reality, I'm not even upset Bama lost. I feel no connection to this team, and they feel completely disconnected from the school I attended.

C'est la vie...
I have been feeling the same way. It is another professional league, and it is everything I dislike about the pro game. What really stuck out to me during the broadcast was when the announcers would say, "That is (insert players name) that transferred from (insert schools name).

I’ll be on board with all this if what I saw today continues all year. First game in these circumstances… predictable outcome.

When you and several other staff members are paid 7 figures, you better in the hell be able to come up with a plan.
