Auto lovers - what's your ride? (post pics) Part II

Been driving my late Mom's car lately. Had it in a storage unit for the past year and just recently got the title transferred over and a new registration in my name.

It's an '08 Taurus SEL with 21,463 original miles. Always garage kept and always serviced at the dealer she bought it from back in '08. Almost immaculate condition and really a joy to drive.

I was going to sell it because I already have my nice 5 speed Volvo wagon plus my Silverado work truck plus several Porsches plus a bunch of motorcycles. But gotta say.......I really love this Taurus so much I doubt I would ever get a price equal to the overall value it brings.

This so awesome!

After 70 years, they decided to make their dream true
🍾

At 92, Mr. and Mrs. Evans picked up their first Porsche, proof the right time can be any time. They chose a 911 GT3, a track-bred 911 with roughly 500 hp, so the celebration sounds as good as it feels.

Porsche Centre Bournemouth shared a photo of the couple celebrating with their new 911 GT3 keys.

They skipped the quiet dinner and marked seven decades together with a set of keys.

Spotted this beauty in the parking lot next door while filling up the Silverado at the Wawa this morning.

It's a '64 Plymouth Fury convertible.

As I started taking photos, the owner walked up. Army vet, so I shook his hand and thanked him for his service. He was happy to share some info on his baby and let me see what was under the hood. These cars came with a 426 but he put a 440 into this one. Those are Carter 4 BBL carbs.

He said he just finished the engine install last weekend this was the second trip out. Gorgeous!

Jay Leno—one of America’s most enduring comedians—welcomed Maria into his legendary classic car garage for a brand-new Life Above the Noise conversation, and we’re excited to share an exclusive first look with you.

Diving into all things comedy, cars and caregiving, Maria and Jay explore the wisdom he’s gained from his roles as a comedian, tv host, collector, and most importantly—as a husband and caregiver for his wife Mavis, who has been diagnosed with advanced dementia. Jay tells us why he feels Americans have more in common than we think, what comedy still gives him today, what being a caregiver means to him, and so much more.

I bought my 1st car when I was 16 and it was a 1971 Datsun 240z. This isn’t a picture of it, but my car was identical to this one:

I’ve owned at least one car each year since that very first car…up until I gave my Toyota Tundra to my son four years ago when he turned 16. For the past four years I’ve been driving my wife’s 2nd car, a Jeep Wrangler…and it’s been kind of a weird feeling to not have a car of my own for the first time in 40 years.

So, I did a thing two weekends ago, and asked my wife to drive me to Tallahassee to buy a car…but I didn’t tell her what it was:

It’s a 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe with 22,000 miles. I literally bought it from an 80 year old lady who only drove it on the weekends. Her 80 year old husband had a yellow convertible, and they kept both of them parked in an air conditioned garage. GM only made 1266 of these coupes, and just under 900 remained in the US…the others going to Canada and Mexico. It feels like I’ve come full circle and I’m 16 years old again…except for the grey hair…and the aches & pains…and being married…and

I had a black turbo Solstice convertible. I loved that car. Very peppy and cornered like a go kart.

Good eye Toddrn…
It’s a 1972 Vega GT that belonged to my best friend…and was actually his very first car. I was 20 when we became friends, and this Vega was on blocks while he was driving a 1983 Fox Body convertible 5.0 Mustang. Over the next 38 years I watched him put the Vega back together. I visited him in Birmingham two years ago and happened to take a video of him driving it for the first time…and then he was gone 2 months later.
He wasn’t married and had no children, and I’m the caretaker of both cars while I wrestle with his estate to take ownership of them.

@BearFoot _

1st - congrats on the new ride - she's a beaut! Nice to have the top come off like that but still have the safety factory of the coupe infrastructure.

2nd - nice story about your friend and his Vega. It was my first car when I went away to college in '72. Mine was a wagon. After it died, I got another - this time a vinyl roof coupe.

Great cars when they don't overheat!

3rd - good luck getting through the estate stuff for your friend. Can be very challenging stuff!

My Vega wagon....complete with Aloha surf rack, of course! :)

I bet you couldn’t keep the girls away riding around with that hair blowing in the wind through the windows of that majestic beast 😉
