Government Shutdown

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Jounson has announced that the House won't hold any votes until mid Oct--to try and force the Dems hand on the CR. But he may have a different mootive.

If the dems get one more vote in the House, they can force a floor vote (via discharge petition) on a resolution to release the Epstein files. There are just enough GOP votes on board to reach 217-- But 218 votes are needed to pass the petition.

As it so happens a Dem rep-elect is waiting to be sworn in-- Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva D-AZ.

I'm sure it's just a stunning coincidence.

I just went to a USDA website ( DRI Calculator for Healthcare Professionals | National Agricultural Library ) and received the following highlighted message:
! Due to the Radical Left Democrat shutdown, this government website will not be updated during the funding lapse. President Trump has made it clear he wants to keep the government open and support those who feed, fuel, and clothe the American people.

Looks like a Hatch Act violation.

It is a violation. I was a government attorney dealing with Hatch Act violations before I retired.

She refuses to say "Yes, including illegal immigrants". However, she also refuses to clarify herself by what she means by "healthcare for everybody". IMO, if she was as honest as she's wanting the reporters asking her questions to be, then she would easily clarify what she means by "healthcare for everybody". But for some reason she refuses. So in the name of common sense, what does the average Joe automatically think? This ain't brain surgery. It sounds like to me when she says "healthcare for everyobdy" she literally means everybody in this country, including illegals. Especially when given the opportunity to clarify herself, she refuses.
She may want that, but that's not what the Congressional leadership is proposing.

National debt is better measured vs GDP:

Historically, Republican Congress with a Democratic president is the best combination when the debt (as measured by debt to GDP) goes down.
Obviously I didn't create the meme. I'm pretty sure the readers can still figure out the point of what was posted.

This shutdown will be solved when the Rs agree to faithfully negotiate with the Ds if the Ds vote for the CR. That will give the Ds cover they need with their voters. Once the CR is passed, the faithful negotiation will evaporate into the thin air.

Yes, I'm a cynic.

Haven’t Republicans like Johnson already made the negotiating promise? If the Democratic leadership accepts the GOP’s word for anything, they’re even bigger fools than I thought.

When polls start shifting away from the Ds, they will cave.

Considering how low their polling was before all this, that's not a hell of a lot of movement. My best guess is just the opposite. They know their approval ratings are in the toilet anyway; they might as well do what they want to do without regard of public perception. The mid-terms are still more than a year away and the voters will have long forgotten about this by then.

I'm referring to 'who caused the shutdown' which currently is favorable to the Ds.
