“No where a championship team”…
“No examples”
For the last time:
12-2, SEC Champions, stop Georgia from the 3 peat, 4 team playoff berth, one play away from playing for his 8th NC.
That’s facts. Not fluff.
Don’t talk about all the close games under Saban the last season and call it “luck”, and then turn around and praise DeBoer for all his close wins.
All of us agree DeBoer failed to meet expectations last season.
This season overall remains to be seen.
But acting like he was handed a situation like Saban inherited from Shula is beyond ridiculous.
1) no one far as i can tell has said he inherited a Shula level team. But it has been clear for some time that the post 2020 teams under Saban have been highly talented but highly flawed teams. Bryce Young covered up alot of those flaws for two years but it was apparent that they were nowhere near peak Saban era teams. And the transfer portal added with nil doesn’t exactly allow DeBoer control over the very best of that last team he had. Let’s face it… he had 0% chance of keeping the one person that would’ve made a difference on last year and this year’s team when Ohio st and Georgia were bidding on him once saban left.
2) close games… in this era they happen far more often than they have ever happened in the past. Too many teams are far more similar in talent than ever before. Vanderbilt is a legitimate threat in terms of talent to upset you on any given Saturday. When have you ever said that outside of the few times that they got a legitimate quarterback that everyone was snoozing on?
3) luck… it’s part of the game, and most of our road wins from 21-present have required a good deal of luck to go our way.
4) saying that the 24 team was a championship caliber team is ignoring that 3 of our 4 best players were DeBoer guys. Milroe for better or worst was the one true Saban guy out of those 4. Ryan Williams had to be re recruited by DeBoer and Shepherd so he technically counts as a DeBoer guy. But Brailsford and Bernard were both guys who came in from Washington. The fact that we won 9 games with the crazy amount of transfers out from that 23 team that you want to hype up is an amazing feat all things considering when you actually look at the experience on that roster added with the acknowledgment that they had to learn a totally different system from what was being ran under Saban.
