Coaching carousel 2025-26

I do not have confidence that Lane will bring in a decent defensive coordinator. Of course LSU will still have a good defense but that is based on the talent that comes in and not the coaching staff, to.

I think it is more likely for Kiffin to implode than win a National Championship at LSU. And when he has not won a championship by the end of Y3, the corndogs will grow impatient. Let's face it, Lane does not handle pressure well.
Ole Miss was willing to do just about anything to keep him including yearly rumors of him leaving. As an outsider it appeared they gave him everything he wanted. They seemed to ask how high when Lane said jump. When the cajuns start in on him when he loses to a team he shouldn't his meltdown could be popcorn worthy.

I often have issues with Josh Pate but I 100% agree with him in that PSU may have botched this coaching search worse than anyone since Tennessee in their firing of Butch jones. They really thought some big fish was going to jump just because of them being PSU. I wouldn’t be surprised if Campbell says “no” because he would be very behind in recruiting if he left ISU at this point
It really does appear that PSU dropped the ball big time. They were one of the first to fire their coach and are going to be one of the last to fill the spot. Wouldn't shock me at all if they thought they could just snap their fingers and get any coach they wanted.

This isn’t something that is new. Alabama (especially under CNS) went out of state nationally.

A lot because he re-built Bama on the national scene…but also because we have an in-state little brother. Even though our recruiting classes are great, Auburn last year signed like 9 out of the top 10 players in state.

So, not having an in state rival absolutely is a recruiting advantage even still.
That was because CKD didn't have any relationships to the state high schools prior to coming to Tuscaloosa in late January of last year.

awbern obviously took advantage of that opportunity. 😎

I am very curious how Campbell will do with more resources. I think he is a good coach that I have kept my eye on. We shall see if he truly is a good coach.
Certainly a better up-and-comer than his contemporary, the Row the Boat Gopher - but had a few wins become losses over the course of his time in Ames and had Brock Purdy walked on at 'Bama as almost happened, and he's probably a .500 coach with the 'Clowns - which still would've rated a handsome won-loss record considering the school's football history. But we would've found out a few years sooner about his coaching capabilities at a better, bigger and traditionally winning program. Who says he can recruit at State Penn anyhow?

Piling on, but several outlets are reporting the Lane Kiffin drama is to blame for the SCORE ACT being tabled . The SCORE ACT would help bring sanity to NIL and the transfer portal.

So if the Salary Cap across all sports is $20.5M, how was LSU able to lure Kiffins with $25M for NIL? Are those different things? 🤔

Josh Pate was reportedly saying that Jon Sumrall was pretty much “closed” on the Auburn job. However John Cohen attempted to strong arm Sumrall into retaining Durkin as the DC. Part of the deal with Sumrall was “autonomy” in staff decisions. When Cohen attempted to shove Durkin down his throat, Sumrall said “Thanks but no thanks”.

If I understand correctly the $20.5M cap is for the athletic departments to spend (revenue sharing) but the additional NIL money comes from private boosters.
That is correct, and you're supposed to have to prove it's for tangible services and not pay 4 play. But wouldn't simply announcing this be a pretty clear sign this is pay 4 play? Additionally, if we're really serious about enforcing this stuff, I would think any deal that you only get by signing with a certain school would be obvious pay for play. I also heard they're supposedly turning down 75% of these deals, so if that is true, then I'm not sure how anyone can promise something like that to a coach.

Listening to Finebaum and Dinnich on GETUP this morning , saying Early Signing is the problem for Kiffin, he had to recruit for LSU.and for the all the coaches taking jobs before their team is finished this year. I’m screaming at the idiots when they say nothing can be done about it. Hey, move signing day back to February, or mid January so they can early enroll for spring ball. And yes, the way CFB is moving, most schools will allow for delayed enrollment. Mid January signing would only affect 4-8 teams.
If Kiffin had just been honest and said how screwed up everything is in College Football right now I think everybody would have given him a pass. Instead, he talked about "God" and "Prayer" and basically pulled more of a Hugh Freeze than the Rev hisself.

He could have said with the no-rules / money-talks reality of the game now he was going to LSU where there were tons of amazing athletes who wanted to play for the only in-state school. He could have mentioned the deeper pockets and how he was leaving because he got Chambliss with hard work and a lot of luck and that you can't count on that every year. He might have mentioned Alabama's deep QB bench and that they'll never have that luxury at the 'Sip.

He could have mentioned that he could find himself coaching better with lesser players while he had to watch some lesser coach with a horseshoe up his bum who got the LSU job flat out-talenting him while he was still "three games away from being fired".

But he didn't.
