Voting discussion thread II

I know it will never happen, but any legitimate news organization should refuse to cover the president's speech when we know for a fact that it is based on nothing but lies and manufactured outrage.

It is only going to get worse between now and November. Trump and his klan are not even trying to hide the fact that they plan to interfere in this election.

Many Trumper supporting poster have said we were fearmongering or talking nonsense for years by saying that Trump was going to do exactly what he is now doing. Funny how these posters are deafly silent now.

Trump pretty much broadcasts everything he is going to do. Usually with projection to blame someone else up front for the ensuing disaster.

I suspect the Thursday speech will be a tale told by an idiot. Full of sound and fury and signifying absolutely nothing.

Trump doesn't even believe the crap he's spewing about elections.

What King Narcissus wants is VALIDATION.

He was psychologically abused and programmed enough by his worthless father to believe being a "loser" is worse than being on the Epstein List, committing rape, or killing kids in an Iranian school. What he wants is someone somewhere - a court, God Himself, SOMEONE WITH AUTHORITY - to say, "No, Chump, you didn't actually lose in 2020. You were the winner."

The sad commentary is that Republican voters in 2016 followed by the country as a whole and then wash, rinse, repeat in 2024 decided to let the old man you wouldn't leave alone in the room with a coffee maker for fear he'd burn himself have the nuclear football.

I recall when Lamar Alexander ran for President in 1996 for the GOP nom, he summarized Bill Clinton in what I thought was the most accurate assessment I'd ever heard and wasn't even really all that insulting:

"He's the only President we've ever had who feels it necessary to work out his midlife crisis in public."

Given what happened in his second term with the revelation of his affair with a 21-year-old, Alexander was even more right at the time he said it than even he imagined.

How scary is a democratic socialist candidate? Apparently not as scary as a MAGA one

The rise of democratic socialists in recent House primaries is certainly posing problems for the Democratic Party.

But as Republicans seek to make this a central issue in the 2026 midterm elections, new data indicates it might not be as big a liability for Democrats as one might think.

A case in point: A new poll suggests that a democratic socialist candidate is actually less of a liability than being a MAGA supporter or being endorsed by President Donald Trump.

If Dems want to lose again then sure, go with AOC. She’s way too controversial. Honestly, I’m not sure I see any winners on that list.

I think we need someone more moderate that can “unite” the country a little bit. That is probably a pipe dream though.
it’s a poll out of new hampshire for an election 2 years away. it’s nothing more than dems in disarray clickbait. the exact same thing was going on in the lead up to the 2018 midterms

This is a weird story.

Judicial Watch: Virginia Removes 6,531 Declared Noncitizen Registrations from Voter Rolls

From personal experience, I can tell you that the way someone informs Virginia of US citizenship is by checking a box on the voter registration form. If the registrar does not verify citizenship somehow, that is it. These 6,531 noncitizens registered to vote in Virginia had not checked the box, but somehow ended up registered to vote anyway. This number does not include any noncitizens that did check the box (if there are any).

It's hard to believe an illegal would want to draw attention to themselves...

It is not just illegal immigrants. Green card holders, student visa holders, even tourist visa holders, if the holders are stationary long enough.
In some of the counties of northern Virginia, Democrats are in complete control. There is no viable opopsition to check on the majority's actions.
There are members of the Democratic party elsewhere who have argued that all residents, whether citizens or not, should vote. In DC, Oakland, and San Fran, Calif. noncitizens today can vote in local elections. It is not too great of a stretch from there to voting in a federal election.
I'd bet a paycheck nobody in Fairfax County or Loudoun County is checking, and if nobody verifies, nobody will get caught.
As long as you check the box and send in your card, you are registered to vote.

Thanks.
A lot of water will flow under the bridge before this election happens.
The smallest things can derail a campaign (e.g. Howard Dean's scream into a mike which sounded very differently depending on whether you were listening to the mike in his hand with the noise-cancelling filter or to the room overall). A tiny thing like that changed the course of the campaign.
