Post game thoughts (including coaching) thread. Let's not have 50 new ones...

Personally, I wanted to start up a "Fire Shula Now" chant right after the end of the game. But, I'm going to sleep on it. If I still feel this disgusted tomorrow morning, I hope to wake up with a B'Ham news headline saying "Shula fired".

Offensive line buried us today. Whether that's players or coaching, I'm not so sure.

COACHING!!! There is no way Capps should be starting! Even if you can convince me that Capps should be starting, then why was he left in after getting abused by Groves for the first TO (and first TD)? This is ridiculous!!!!

"Maybe you should apply for the OC position."

No, maybe a lot of us should apply for the DC positions of schools playing Alabama. Evidently, however, every DC in the SEC knows our plays as much as we do ourselves. You cant tell me that when we put the elephant package in on 2nd and goal, everyone who has watched a Bama game this year didnt know exactly where the ball was going and who was carrying it.

And what exactly would you have called down on the goal line? You saw the 2-point conversion attempt where we passed and it got intercepted. Yes the goal line stand we ran it up the gut...but there were other times (including two point conversions) where we were inside the five and did other things. The point is that coming into this game everyone knows Auburns weakness is the middle of the D-line...even the VERY biased commentators stated that. We had to believe that we could get three yards up the middle against Auburns weak interior D-line. It didn't work out...next time we were down there we tried other things. Look all the people downing Shulas playcalling I've been with you all year...but I think he let it all hang out this week and we still lost...whcih shows me that maybe it's not on him. I think he did a good job of getting our kids up when things looked bad and they kept fighting till the end. Shula won my respect tonight...that may not be worth much, but for what it's worth...my stance on him has changed.

Yep. It's inexcusable to continue to play someone who is such a liability on the field when Tatum is more than double his talent level.

Did you just quote a video game?

Here's another one for you: "You've got a lot to learn, before you beat me. Try again kiddo..."

I want changes. I am not a coach, so I will not be specific. But they better show on the field.

Indeed, I did quote a video game. I appreciate the Street Fighter quote. I haven't thought of that one in years, though.

Call me a sunshine thumper but I see it more as an execution problem than coaching (yes some decisions are questionable). However, you win and lose with the big guys in the trenches and ours have not been up to the Alabama standard on both sides of the ball.

I was nearly physically ill seeing that smug look on tubs face. Losing this game REALLY SUX!

one bright spot....... i think we have finally proved to everyone, including our coaches, where we need to go as far as the personnel on the o-line. i am not trying to dog capps, i am sure he is playing his heart out, but it is obvious over the last 2 games that when we change personnel we play a lot better on offense.

Either way you look at it, we just don't play football right anymore. An oLINE would help, but Shula doesn't coach them. Pitches, end arounds, running up the middle, throwing over the middle. Bam, offensive scheme. Did I miss something?

I personally think Shula's good for the team, just not as an offensive coordinator.

I like his image, and I think the players like him. I certainly do. He just needs an OC that's decent and that he'll go with 80 percent of the time.

I also enjoyed JPW checking off at the line of scrimmage. It helped, and shows good things about him.

And what about the defense? I mean...they followed our 6 minute drive with a 1:23 scoring drive of their own...get the idea?

A lot of people seem to think this is the same Alabama team we had last year. People compare to last year, or at least think on Alabama football with last year in mind. That's something you can't do. It's not the same team, that's why they don't play as well. It's a completely different team where it matters, and that has to be understood. The coaching staff last year was the same as this year.

IMHO:

As I see it, nothing has changed since Mike Shula was hired. We haven't improved in the least. Even during the 10 win season last year, there were big questions about his ability as a HC. Luck and defense got us those ten wins, not anything Shula did.

So now here we sit, same old song and dance week in and week out. What do we do? Nothing, and hope for a miracle or make a painful change and get it over with. I side with the latter, bite the bullet and do what needs to be done. Because there are no miracles forthcoming. :frown: As always...

Roll Tide!

This just in.........WE ARE A BASKETBALL SCHOOL!

I'm passionate about Alabama football, but not as much about basketball, so I really don't mind being a basketball school.

Speaking of which, shouldn't Auburn basketball fans be fearing the ring finger of the left hand? Going for 8 in a row, correct?
