Strange Stoops Stories

CRR doesn't excite me at all. I know he had the record and all but for some reason I just can't get all goose bumps about the man. AND after his tirade on the radio he will take some serious PR handling if he takes the Bama job and the wife will need to grow a thicker skin. Mrs. Fran learned the hard way this is no walk in the park for the family of the man who heads Bama. I don't know why I even care anymore. RTR

BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

If this happened it would be like the "Pearl Harbor" of coaching hires. The talk shows, papers and media here are not even reporting the rumors. If these guys got wind of it they would ask Stoops the question 150,000 times. They did when he was rumored for an NFL job.

Out of all the top 6 or 7 names that have been metioned his would be the 1 with least amount of "rumors" so far. This might really be our guy. He probably knows OK might be about to take a fall. He still is one of the big name coaches in college but might not be quite as big as it was 2 years ago. The guy leading the search for the coach is located in Colorado, I think. Knowing OK might be about to get in some heat would make any coach want to leave there. If he doesn't go now and they do get nailed by the NCAA it might limit his options more in a year or two. Also the guy heading the search sounds like he's probably got some pull with the big wheels with the NCAA and Mal might have hired him just to see what part Stoops might have or not have in the deal out there in the Summer or what the NCAA guys think Stoops knew? With our past with the NCAA it would make sense to leave no stone unturned if we went after Stoops.

I know most people want a coach is going to be here 12 + years but it just seems that after 5,6 or 7 years coaches who come in, like Stoops, and have a lot of early success, like Stoops, seem to start to come back to earth. Off the top of my head I can't think of 3 big time schools , TN., FSU and PSU, who's coaches I Know have been there 10 + years and maybe Michigan's.

Might be the perfect time for Stoops to move on.

I've read nothing about this. I don't want to read anything about this!!
Seriously, and I don't want to say anything to offend you people that have been very friendly towards me over the years, but I'd be totally shocked of BS was looking to leave Norman for another college job. He's the most popular person in the entire stae, he has a beautiful new home, his kids are established in Norman. Not that I have any inside info at all, but my gut tells me he won't be comiing to Tuscaloosa.

Sorry, guys, but I have to believe that Stoops to Bama is even sillier than Spurrier...or Saban...or Mack Brown.

There's probably nothing to it, wishbone. It's just an internet rumor that got started somehow... Sounds like all you guys need to be concerned about now is Boise State.....

I agree WBS. I actually think BS would be crazy to leave what he has built. If he did come, no doubt, I would imbrace him w/ open arms, but I really don't see that happening.

Seriously, if it's not Stoops, Saban, or Spurrier (or some completely unexpected pick, like Pete C.), I'm going to be let down. Alabama doesn't need another up and comer, given our troubles with Dubose, Fran, Price, and Shula.

Which one of those 4 was an up and comer? More like down and outers, with the possible exception being Fran. For sure you never heard any of the other 3 mentioned for any jobs before ours and personally, I never heard anyone mention Frans name until he showed on our radar screen. I had never heard of him and neither had any of my football friends.

Actually we've never (since Bryant of course) hired anyone that was being offered by anyone else have we? It's definitely time we make a splash of the cannonball variety.

I don't know if Stoops is unhappy with his coaching situation or not, but I'll bet he's unhappy aboout playing those Broncos in the Fiesta. Talk about your NO-Win Situations. Bob.... Get Out while you can.

I am wondering ....

(1) Do we really know if Stoops or any other coach whose name has been mentioned in the media and on this board are on Mal's list ?

(2) Could Mal have a "dark horse" that he has secretly been talking to?

(3) Could Mal's job be on the line if he doesn't hire a "home run" ?

Does anyone know?

Something that flies in the face of logic...

"We don't need an up and comer." Yet, Stoops wasn't a proven head coach when he was hired at OU.

Don't be short-sighted when you look at things revolving around this search.

Thanks TP, that needed saying. I believe that's exactly what BAMA needs - is a up and coming coach, CRR, for example, who comes to the Tide with the intent of re-establishing BAMA as a superpower among the elite of college football.

Just because the rumor mill has us sniffing around the State of Oklahoma doesn't necessarily mean that Stoops is the target. There is another very good coach just down the road from Norman, who has been quietly turning chicken scat into chicken salad.

With an offense we should be very familiar with.

Good post, Terry. I would love to see a BIG name coach come in. But if we can get a mid-major coach with a proven track record, we can win just as big.

Ohio State hired a bespectacled Division I-AA coach. Florida hired a mid-major producer. Look what those two are playing for next month.

Whats up with these teaser threads. I thought I was gonna see something about Stoops that was strange... like someone caught him naked with some crisco and 3 live chickens!

That's it!. Maybe we are going after OK State's HC. At least we will get a good look at him in the Independence bowl.
