Strange Stoops Stories

WOW! I would welcome Stoops with joy! I sure hope this guy's right. I think Coach Stoops is a proven winner who is a disciplinarian. What other coach would kick his starting qb OFF THE TEAM? Suspend him maybe, but wow. I have always liked and respected Coach Stoops. I think he would be a great fit.

I know it's off thread, but what DO you have against Stubbs. I haven't met many coaches, but I had dinner with Stubbs and he is a very intelligent, knowledgeable guy, a great offensive coach and very down to earth. Just curious.

Hire Bob Stoops Blog
I have not bought into any of these my source can beat up your source typep posts. However, I found this on another UA forum and it is quite intersting. I still take it FWIW, but it IS an intruiguing read. The blogger has done his homework and there are some very, very interesting coincidences, no to mention, a possibly revealing chain of events.

I think he may be on to something, key word is think and doing that has gotten me into trouble on more than one occasion!

TeterboroGate?

Wait... I got it! A "Stoops d'etat?"

Thanks for the link. That is one of the most entertainingly outrageous conspiracy theories I've ever read.

Uatuba and Want13, what the @#$% is wrong with y'all!!!!

This is a FREE site run by, in my opinion, the best mods on a sports board that I've seen. And now y'all see fit to question not only the quality of the FREE information you are receiving, but the integrity of the mods that bring it to you. YOU ARE NOT ENTITLED TO INSIDE INFORMATION, PERIOD! You could not be trusted with such information anyway.

Regarding the coaching search, if you insist on believing EVERYTHING ESPN, or other "news" sources tell you, then go right ahead, but don't come over here with your drivel trying to convince everyone that you "know this, or you know that". You don't know SQUAT!

You don't know what Moore's plan was when he decided to fire Shula.
You don't know if he did, or did not, already have a solid candidate lined up.
You don't know if the Spurrier or Saban rumors are no more than media speculation
You don't know if any of these top name coaches are, or are not, coming.
You don't know what timing issues are involved in making an announcement.

And, most of all, YOU DO NOT KNOW IF THE MODS SOURCES ARE LYING TO THEM OR NOT.

If this site gives you such heart burn, then go to www.al.com where you can talk to some barners and get some "real" information.

That guy puts Oliver Stone to shame

Sticking strictly to the economics of hiring Bob Stoops, the coach is currently paid approximately 3 million per year. In addition if he stays through the 2007 season he receives a 3 million dollar bonus in addition to his salary. When you add those sums together with the necessary buyout from OU it makes hiring him pretty pricey. Not to say he's not worth every penny (as a sooner fan, I'd take up a collection for him if necessary).
I'm certainly respectful of Alabama's tradition and devotion to their program but that's a serious amount of money that would have to be paid, in addition to the severance package for Shula.
I believe that if Coach Stoops leaves Oklahoma it won't be for money, but to follow his heart. Maybe being closer to SEC country and Florida is important but right now he is the king of all he surveys.
Hope you find a great coach, just not ours.

the power of the internet is amazing, rumors can start on a whim, however nothing would suprise me. my mom had friends in carbon hill, alabama and we used to visit every now and then. i've always been a closet bama fan. especially when gene stallings was the coach. good luck tide.

Welcome, TXHS coach. Good to see a new addition to the western part of the Bama Nation. You'll love it here. BTW, what high school?

Umm, let's see, how about--NOT FIRING SHULA WITHOUT A HUGE REPLACEMENT IN HAND. At the very least, they should have had a VERY strong feeling about a top-notch candidate's interest before letting him go. The fact that we have yet to speak with anyone publicly lets me know that they didn't have anything other than passing interest. I wanted Shula gone, but I can't say ANYTHING will be better than what we had. Replacing a Dubose with a Shula is a step up, but it's not a big enough step. If we don't make a big enough step, we'll get worse national perception and the image of instability will be preserved. Additionally, there will be that question lurking in the back of impatient Bama Fan's minds: "Can he really do it here?"

Mal Moore didn't say he wanted a "solid" coach. Any time that word is used, it means, "good, sometimes impressive, but not outstanding." Mal Moore basically called for a huge name in coaching, and his stated qualifications have been supported by his apparent search for those coaches--I'm having a heard time buying the triple smokescreen theory.

If it's not a coup, then I will be confirmed even further--unless omeone tries to argue that hiring RR, PJ, or *shudder* Grobe is somehow a coup, and I can't seriously believe ANYONE is that stupid.

MM has never used the word "coup" when speaking of this search. Are you setting your hopes so high b/c of someone who thought they knew being mistaken? RR has proven himself to be as good as SOS was when Fla. hired him. I think that he has done much more than wingnut before he went to the barn.

My apologies if wrong, but I think MM's word was "proven" and the "coup" word came from a Mod. Again, apologies if either or both are incorrect.

There have been so many 1000s of words written in the last couple of weeks, I'm not sure when I heard the word "coup" mentioned, or if it were mentioned by staff - or in what context. It seems to me that the word has become a shuttlecock to be used in any way particular posters want to use it to attack the AD in a vitriolic manner. I'm seeing a lot of strange posts...

origination of coup...
Those are some great points Brett.

I look at it like this...

We could post what we've heard, but these things are so fluid what might be true today, might not be true the next day.

Look at Butch Davis...Look at Beamer. Both had agreements in principle but back out of their agreements.

Then again, if we were to post who we think it's going to be, half the Bamanation would say we didn't know a darn thing and we were just speculating.

I'm cautiously optimistic this is going to be a coup.

OK, I'm now reminded. :) I don't want to speak for Terry, but I'd say "name coach" might be better as a term. However, I don't think that his statement is impossible at this point, as some seem to have glumly concluded... :)

One thing to lookat though in hirebobstoops.com is the answer you get from ( the Editor of the tuscalsoosa news ) when he says that Stoops has more crediblity mor thanany other rumor thats in tidesports.com. so there is some foundation to it.

I've been away from Bama way to long! When did we start using words like vitriolic and playing badminton:biggrin2:

Mods/Admin - Thanks for hosting this shuttlecocking vitriolic mess:biggrin2:

Been reading this board for a long time just started posting.....my wife says it is strange! Sorry if I've added to this sulfurous denunciation....(not nearly as good as shuttlecocking vitriolic)! Thanks for the new phrase TIDE-HSV:)

Not to steal credit from Terry, but I believe the original use ofthe word Coup on this forum was used By Jess Nicholas in his article.

Spurrier ‘smoke’ gets thicker, but is there fire?

- Talking about Spurrior
“Again, it’s either a smokescreen designed to keep the focus off Saban, or Alabama is about to pull off one of the greatest coups of modern coaching-search history.”
