CONFIRMED Assists.: Steele, Thompson, Smart, Alles, Pendry, Davis, Middleton, (more)

Re: CONFIRMED Assistant Coaches: Steele, Thompson, Smart

Also on the potential suitors for Bama's OC gig front, Adam Schefter of the NFL Network said Steve Sarkisian is the Raiders' top choice for HC. Sorry, no link, I saw it on a RSS feed...

I liked Steve > Petrino, so this bums me a little, if it's true. Although, money aside, Bama's OC position might be considered more prestigious than the Raider's HC these days.;)

Whats the deal with Major, do we need to cough up some gas money or what?:conf2:

Re: CONFIRMED Assistant Coaches: Steele, Thompson, Smart

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

If his contract is restrictive against Bama hiring him, why would it be any less restrictive at LSU?

The only reason I could see him going to LSU instead of UA, if he goes anywhere, would be if they offered him a straight OC rather than an Co-OC position. I just don't see a major D-1 school giving OC reins straight up to a 28 year-old with one year experience as an OC.

If the mods are confused and out of the loop on this, where does that leave the rest of us? :conf2: :)

EDIT: If I want any smart comments I'd asked my wife (smile).

Honestly, it's a pretty good feeling to me. Coach Saban is doing this the right way.

Re: CONFIRMED Assistant Coaches: Steele, Thompson, Smart

How would everyone feel if Major came on as QB and co-OC with Kifin from So.Cal as WR coach and co-OC/play caller. I don't have more info than the Mod's but, my inside source said this would make sense.

Imagine the talent Kifin would have with DJ, KB, NS, and some of the underclassmen....

If the above played out, keep Sparky as RB coach and move Thompson to TE coach, and let Kines stay as Recruiting Coordinator.

That sounds great to me but i thought Joe Pendry was in the mix? These Assistant Coaches rumors seem to be changing by the hour.

I really like the idea of Kiffin as OC and Applewhite as QB coach. If those two can get along as co-OC, then thats fine with me as well. This is just speculation but I would imagine that with Saban being as hands on and disciplined as he is that he would be able to make that arrangement work. I don't know much about Applewhite but he seems a little young to be the full-time OC here at Bama. What do y'all think?

.... Kiffin is only 3 years older than Applewhite

... and Kiffin only has one more year of experience as OC than Applewhite

... and FWIW, Kiffin is interviewing Friday for the Minnesota HC job

Re: CONFIRMED Assistant Coaches: Steele, Thompson, Smart

I don't think Applewhite makes it to Tuscaloosa, but I don't understand the whole age thing. He is 27, so what. Age doesn't matter. He can do the job or he can't. The question becomes is Saban impressed with him enough and confident he can do it in Tuscaloosa with only one year's experience. If this was a 50 year old with 1 year of OC experience at Rice would that make the situation different?
