John Brown Update

I would not go as far as saying he's a lock...............IMO, with UF trashing OS it may be hard to pull him from UF. Also, with A Bailey the same can be said!

I never said he was a lock.:conf3: I have seen him play 2x's and he is a stud. Yes, the grades are an issue, but w/his talent he's worth taking the chance.

He may not have the test scores to get in UF. If he scores high enough to get in Bama but not enough for UF, he will go with UA. That is what I'm hearing from Gator "insiders".

Anybody know the specific test score that UF and UA will allow for a recuit? I can't imagine that UF's criteria is all that more difficult than Bama's. I know that UF is a good school but we are all talking about football players here. If on the same playing field with other highschool applicants very few would get in the school. Sad but true.

After seeing Tebow's SAT score on Scout last year I would hate to see what UA's minimum score would be if it's lowerer than Florida's. Just a thought.

UF's reqs:

# A cumulative C average in the academic core, as computed by the university, at all institutions attended, high school and college.
# A record of good conduct. Major or continuing difficulty with school or other officials may render an applicant ineligible regardless of academic qualifications.
# A combined score of at least 950 on the critical reading and mathematical reasoning sections of the new SAT with a minimum score of 440 on each. At this time, the university will not consider the new writing component (multiple choice grammar and usage questions and the written essay) in its admissions process.
# On the new ACT with Writing Test, a composite score of 19 is required with a minimum of 17 on the English subsection, a minimum of 19 on the math subsection and a minimum of 18 on the reading subsection.
# All 2006 applicants must submit the new version of the SAT or the ACT with Writing Test. While UF cannot mix scores from old and new tests, the university will accept the highest subscores from the new SAT if you took the new test multiple times. The university cannot mix or combine any ACT subscores.

Bama's
We expect entering freshmen to be academically prepared to succeed at The University of Alabama as demonstrated by their admissions test scores, high-school grades, and educational preparation. As of 2006-2007, we generally admit a student with a 20 ACT or 950 SAT score and a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

IOW, pretty much the same. If he can't get into one, he pretty much can't get into the other.

If he wants a chance to play early, he needs to come to Bama.

The Gators run a 4 down linemen set and Saban will probably do the same as opposed to a 3 down set. The Gators lose Ray McDonald, Steven Harris, Joe Cohen, to grad. and Marcus Thomas was kicked off the team. That is 4 DT's or the first and second string. Any DT recruit has a chance for early PT at UF. Next year will be a rebuilding year at UF.

We have Wallace and Keith Saunders. No one else really even has any PT besides Greenwood and he is a DE. DT is up in the air mainly because no one has played. He has just as good a chance for early PT here.

96Gators, how many scholarships does UF have to give this year. Was this the year UF looses a bunch of players or just a few. I seem to remember looking at how UF's recruiting went for several years (30 Sr, 15 Jr, 25 So, and 15 Frosh as an example and not actual numbers)

Not sure on the numbers but some of the "insiders" claim 27 but could be more depending on early departures. Jarvis Moss and Ryan Smith are leaving and it's believed Reggie Nelson will be leaving as well after his mother's passing due to breast cancer. Reggie has two younger siblings to look after now. She passed away right after the SECCG.

Didn't mean for it to seem as an insult, but UF is supposedly second to Vandy in terms of admissions requirements. The word on Brown is that he has been working hard to meet the requirements but may fall a little short. If he can't get into UF and can at Bama, he will go to Bama rather than being placed by UF.

Football players don't have to compete with the rest of the applicant pool for either school; they just have to meet the minimums. And those look pretty equivalent to me.

I'm not sure how malleable UA's requirements are, but I know that UF will weigh test scores and GPA significantly differently on a case-by-case basis (see Tebow). I think that any difference in the admission requirements for football players at the two schools are so insignificant as to defy consideration.
