Weightroom Report

But I do see where you're coming from. We are behind in that our RS Freshmen from last year didn't lift like they should have and now are having to play catch up. I agree the overall "health" of our strength and conditioning program has some catching up to do and I believe Saban is doing just that.

I know those RS freshmen were lifting till they got in the program and joined the club so to speak. I don't think it will be as hard for them to get back into the routine as it will for a few who have become used to slacking.

Where did you get that info from? Our RS's were the main ones in there lifting because CRC gave them the green light to hit it 4 days a week with a voluntary 5th day for those interested. This was largely due to them just running the scout team and that's it. Taylor Pharr and GM made some huge gains in the gym this past season, as well as Ross, Motley, and Stadler. Taylor may be one of the strongest OL and the way they are getting pushed now, will probably take Capps' job at RT this season.

Anytime you want to catch up on what's really going on in the gym at Bama, check Coach Eyer's website at spstraining.com. He does a great job of reporting what the guys are doing and his training knowledge is top notch. In fact, me and most of my lifting buddies use alot of his principles. He has trained many good ones that went on to have great careers at Bama and in the League. Guys like Demeco and Saleem, just to name a few. He's working with Rolando right now and thinks he has the potential to be a stud and will probably start as a True Frosh.

On a side note, I think the major difference we will see concerning our OL blocking will come in becoming more aggressive in pushing defenders off the ball instead of dropping back, reading, and reacting.

Thanks, TTF. I think most are trying to typecast everyone into one lump. I knew some were working as hard as they needed to. Just because a few are slacking, doesn't mean everyone is. Just think what a tremendous "jump start", on the season, (and a starting position) some will have. It ain't all bad!!! :)

And the math skills displayed rival the graphic arts displays. What a forum.

fball team did 20-100's yesterday. that is 20 times running 100 yards.

Pfft, we do 20 x 400 meter repeats on the track at around 70 seconds or faster, which is equivalent to a 4:40 mile (or faster). Obviously the football team ain't tough enough to hang with the distance track guys!

Just kidding, our kind of workouts don't acheive the same sort of conditioning goals that the football team would need. They need to be able to burst out and speed out of stationary positions continuously, while we just need a lot of endurance and use a little bit of speed at the very end.

I run these every other week when building up to a marathon, though I prefer 800m repeats at a slightly slower pace. When I was in my 20s, I ran a 4:34 mile. Sadly, I am well over 5 minutes now...

I've done 27 mile runs for my longest "long run" during the summer (just a couple times), but I've never raced a marathon and have no desire to do so either lol.

To the ultramarathon dude, you're absolbloodylutely insane!

S&C, will give out 4TH QUARTER awards after Fridays workouts. We will see who has been busting their humps!!!!!!!

Back in the summer of 1990, I ran the double marathon portion of the Double Iron Man Triathalon on a support crew in Huntsville. It was the summer before my Senior year of high school. Coincidentally, stress fractures in my shins worsened after that and my college cross-country scholly opportunities went bye-bye my Senior season. I went from a top 15 runner in the state every year to next-to-nothing that year. I used to also run a lot of 10k's in the off-season and that went away, too. Oddly enough, I was still able to play soccer and baseball, but distance running was an absolute "no", and still is today at age 34.
