Let's stop navel gazing and look at football

It seems that many of us (myself sometimes included) have gotten too much invovled in navell gazing and overanalyzing everything from our fans to our players. I want to read more about football prospects: e.g., what to expect from FSU; what the match-ups are; what the keys to winning are; etc. This has been an emotional couple of weeks. Let's talk football! (I'm not talking about Jess and others who have done a wonderful job breaking down the next game, I'm just trying to get focused on the game instead of the emotions around this new and different season).

Wait...you've posted 12 times and created an account in July. I'm not bashing you because you're new, but I do think you're out of bounds in asking those who have been participating in TideFans much longer than you and I to change the way they do things.

Don't think you got the gist of the post. I know I'm new, so are you. I just was stating that it seems a lot of fans here, on other forums, on the radio, etc. are so busy talking about other things (e.g., fan behavior, etc., our players' performance, etc..) and not talking about the next opponent. I admit I have been guilty of same (I posted about fans' behavior myself)/ Nowhere did I say the forum should change. I just said that I as a fan would like to start learning more about our opponent and this week's game than continuing to rehash our own disagreements about players, play-calling, and fan behavior. I don't see how that is out of line, even for a "noobie". By the way, I understand the urge to attack new posters on all forums, but for those of us who love football and want to participate, it's not encouraging to get bashed for just having a few posts. Everyone starts somewhere. I understood that the forum's purpose is to grow. That's why we seek advertisers, isn't it? So why not be courteous and engage the topic instead of pointing out how few posts the writer has? Furthermore, I thought I gave props to the bigwigs like Jess N. and others.

"Navel-gazing" is a term that refers to folks that are so self-absorbed that they would rather contemplate their own navels than look at the world around them. . . or something like that. I guess it's a provocative phrase. Go where you will with it. : -)

Thanks, lafella. I do trust the mods and this forum. That's why, after a long time of reading, I finally joined. This forum is by far the best.

It's a bit bemusing to find a thread about what the forum shouldn't be about. And the thread itself, of course, is not about directly about "X & O" football. The football forum has always incorporated everything about football, from fan behavior to the state of the grass. That's the way it will continue, as it has for a good many years, now. The direction of the forum at any particular time depends entirely on what interests Tidefans at that moment. There's nothing to be gained, and certainly nothing will be changed, by lecturing fellow members. And I'll like you better if you'll drop the "bigwig" terminology...

I thought this thread was going to be in form of poor tackling. I was going to respond, "you are supposed to watch the runner's mid-section and not the feet or head". Otherwise you get juked and break your ankles trying to tackle.

If this post was viewed by some as disrespectful (and apparently it was), I apologize. I have enjoyed this forum immensely over the last few years and only recently got up the nerve to start posting. The intent of this post was to emphasize that we as fans (not this forum) are so caught up in our emotions about this year and a lot of outside distractions that we may not be spending our energy enough on looking at the next game. For instance, I have not seen many posts about Drew Weatherford's performance, Decody Fagg's (under) performance, etc. All I hear about on radio (and forums) is fan behavior, others' perceptions of us, etc. We have a big game this weekend. I can't speak very intelligently about Xs and Os, so that's why I come here to read and learn. Is that so bad? I know this forum is not like other ones (which I will not mention) and I respect that. Now, if I am still in the wrong, please let me know how you come to that conclusion so that I can address the issue. Thanks.

All you have to do is lead by starting threads on those topics and posting knowledgeably. I think you will not lack for followers. That's the productive way to turn discussions in that direction, not to lecture members about what their concerns should be, and about what they should or should not post. I for one will appreciate every thread like that you start. OTOH, there will always be the fun and peripheral threads, boys being boys... :D

I was afraid you had a hot date and wanted us dirty old men to stop starring at her in her halter top.

No way I was gonna buy off on that!!!!!!!!

I got no problem with any of these other thoughts.
