Should we pull for LSU to win NC?

I will pull for an SEC team when they pull for Bama. Winter was on a Friday back in February here in Orlando this year and it hasn't been below freezing in the 3 years I have lived here. So I guess it will be a cold day here and somewhere else before that happens.

I certainly will. A LSU championship will make it harder for Alabama to recruit against LSU but it will make it easier to win the national title, which is what Alabama football is all about.

That seems to contradict very strongly

If we want Alabama to make the title game once we get rolling, the SEC is going to need respect. UF helped out a lot last year and this year, LSU can do the same.

Go ask anyone from any other conference in the country and they will say, "I'm so sick of hearing about the SEC." The SEC gets tons of respect and I've not seen otherwise. When is the last time you saw the SEC listed as 2nd on a ranking list? Yeah, I can't remember either.

Just my thoughts on it.

if they make the NC, whether they win or lose won't affect recruiting too much. The fact that they made it will affect it moreso than whether or not they won it.

Not that it matters. I've got my own scenarios, too. I would only pull for lsu in certain situations.

Three weeks ago, I would have pulled for them, not now. They won at BD, were treated nicely in doing so, yet still they whine about us and Coach Saban.

There's a thread on one their forums about who they'll pull for in the Iron Bowl. A good 99+% say they will root for the Barn. Chop blocks, cigars, logo dancing, ahole fans...doesnt' matter, they pull for Barney. Far as I'm concerned, they can all can kiss my h/w arse.

Roll Tide

I know that it is conventional wisdom that winning a NC improves recruiting, but is there any evidence of this happening to a significant degree?

I know that it didn't help Alabama in 1993 nor Georgia Tech in 1990.

It could be argued that teams recruit well because of their location and the recruiting ability of the coaching staff. For example, UGA has recruited very well for 20 years and they haven't won a national title since 1980.

This subject has been beaten to death, but I'll ask this...again...

How does it help us for LSU or any other SEC team to win the NC when we recruit head-to-head with them? Tell me.

I still haven't been given a good reason to pull for any other SEC team. Don't give me that bowl revenue sharing mess. That doesn't help when you're losing the recruiting war.

Besides, I haven't seen one corndog who has said they would pull for us if we were in the same situation. After the way the majority of their fanbase reacted to our coach being hired, I could careless if they ever win another game.

Conference unity went out the window the last decade.

You are absolutely right. I would never pull for another SEC team to win a NC.
No way would it help us.

You must not have looked at many ranking lists. At the beginning of this year, many "journalists" had the PAC-10 ranked ahead of the SEC.

You don't remember last year when there was debate on whether UF should make the title game?

There were less this year than last but that was only because of UF destroying OSU.

First let me start with !Roll Tide Roll! Born a Bama fan will live my life as a Bama fan and will die as a Bama fan!! All others in the SEC are just a means to an end. If LSU wins the SEC and goes to the NC game but Oregon blows them out it will only serve the people that say that the SEC is overrated. Where as if LSU goes in and demolishes whoever they play then that backs up the people who say that we play in the toughest conferance (which we do). I pull for Alabama always but I want every SEC team that goes to a bowl game to win and win big.

Thank you for clearing this up and I agree 100%. I talk with family members all the time who say that they want other SEC teams to do well. Their response is always, "it makes the SEC look better."

First, does the SEC need to look any better? I'm pretty sure everyone knows how good the SEC is. Second, I am sick of the SEC being so good. Look at the last time so many SEC teams were winning NC's. It was in the 1950's. Don't think it is a coencidence that the 1950's were one of Bama's worst decades ever. Now the 2000's have been the worst decade of Bama football since the 1950's and suddenly the entire SEC is as strong as ever. Other SEC teams thrive when Bama is down. That is why no other SEC team helped us out when we were getting hit by the NCAA. They all wanted a weakened Bama because they can't compete with us on a level playing field. So no we do not want other SEC teams doing so well and winning NC's. It is just that easy, it is either us or them. And I am going to choose us. :)

Hate is complete waste of time and energy!

Bama fans hate Fulmer.

LSU fans hate Saban.

Bama fans hate Auburn fans.

UF fans hate everybody.

Ad infinitum ...

Make an effort to rise above it. Show your fellow SEC fan that you can act with class. Fulmer showed his hate for Bama and look where it's gotten him lately. He let it consume him to the detriment of his team. Do you think Coach Saban, or his coaches, or our players waste their time hating our rivals in the SEC. I certainly hope NOT! If you have an allegiance to Oregon, or Kansas, or OU then that's great. Root for them, that's healthy. But don't root for them just because you want to feed your hate for LSU.

Rise above it!

Gotta root for Missouri as they have a really exciting offense this year and Chase Daniel has to be in the top 3 in the Heisman ballot. If Missouri wins the rest of the games, including KU and OU at the Big 12 Championship game, Missouri should be in the championship game. I say it here, that they will beat LSU if they do play them in the NC game.

Wow, didn't know the Dali Llama was a poster. I'm VERY impressed. I just feel awful now.

You made me laugh with that one ... even though Bama 13-0 has a point about the hate stuff.

I almost always pull against our SEC rivals ... mainly because of the recruiting factor. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one questioning the "gotta root for the SEC" mantra.

While there are scenarios in which conference strength might help us if we end up as one of three undefeated teams (for instance), we are much more likely to get to that position if our conference rivals are down.

Ask LSU. Would having an elite, powerful Bama to recruit and play against over the past five years have helped them or hurt them? Sure it would have made the conference better, but LSU might well be sitting there without a national title. And they very likely would not be in position to play for the title this year either.
