Re: Petrino to Arky? (Espn Confirmed)

Yeah, take your pick -

Jerry Jones
The Waltons
Tyson Foods
Thats just the tip of the Iceburg, Ark has more money than folks realize. Remeber that our fb program made the Forbes top 20 in terms of worth.
I work closes with the Hunt family but their interest lie more with the BKB program. NWA is littered with millionaires from folks that got in on Walmart in the beginning, I mean littered

Breaking news, apparently Bobby Petrino has resigned as the Atlanta Falcons head coach to take the Arkansas job.
Man, there is NO conference in the USA that has the stable of name coaches that the SEC has. No conference can touch the SEC. None.

Surprised that he didn't consider or wasn't considered for the Michigan job. He was a strong candidate for the Bama job last year but the rumor was he turned us down because he was more interested in an NFL job.

Folks often assume that these multi-millionaires or billionaires are happily willing to throw millions and millions into a college football program. Some (like Boone Pickens at Oklahoma State) are. Most aren't.

After seeing another Louisville guy with a similar offensive system (John L. Smith) implode at Michigan State, I doubt Michigan was interested in going the same route.

Now it's going to be interesting to see if the 07 season will be the last time that we get to see the "Wildcat/Wildhog" formation...maybe McFadden will take it with him to the NFL...

It is crazy, the coaches we have here in the SEC, MNC's: CNS, UM, SOS, FatPhil, even Ears went undefeated, LM playing for the MNC this year, CMR in Ga is doing good, and now add Petrino to this list, its going to be tough for the next few years. But look at our recruiting and you will see who WILL be the leading the SEC in the next few years.

If this turns out to be true, how long do you think he will stay? I have a feeling he will be gone after a couple years.

I guess this just goes to show that the SEC is the top of the heap for football. I mean, two coaches in two years leave the NFL for the SEC.

Not surprised that Petrino wants to leave Atlanta. It takes you 3 hours to get from one side of town to the other and you can't even water your lawn or wash your car anymore.

Re: Petrino to Arky? (Espn Confirmed)

While Petrino is a "hot name" and will (at least initially) do well recruiting, his being at Arkansas doesn't concern me as much as many of you say it does.

Here's why:

1. Arkansas loses a lot depth next season (especially if the expected players turn pro). He will face a rebuilding system to go along with a complete change of offensive philosophy...two things he didn't have to worry about at Louisville.

2. Petrino played fast and loose when it came to recruiting at Louisville, promising starting spots and playing time. That can help for a short while, but almost always creates big problems in the long run (ask Coach DuBose).

3. Petrino took many chances on players with questionable character at Louisville. That won't work for long in the SEC.

4. His teams at Louisville won a lot of 55-51 type high-scoring games. He'll either have to put more focus on defense or will wind being the next Mike Leach, whipping up on also-rans while usually losing to the good teams.

5. Steve Kragthorpe gets a lot of blame for Louisville's down season, but many of the problems are of Petrino's making: reduced depth on the roster, bad attitude players, players promised playing time they didn't get, etc.

I'm not saying Petrino won't build a different kind of team at Arkansas, but doing so will require a different approach than the one he used at Louisville.
