Best players ever from your high school?

Re: Best players Ever from your high school

Cullman High School -- before my time but great UA players:

1. Wayne Trimble
2. Johnny Calvert
3. Leslie Kelly (sp?)

and the Britts (I think-- after my time).

Re: Best players Ever from your high school

Oden was a very good player that was always overshadowed . Very under-appreciated . Didn't he stick with Philly for a while ?
I played football at Hillcrest. Our spring session after Bama won the NC game, Oden would come by and hang around practice. During one practice, a guys shoulder pads broke and the next day Oden brought in a set that he wore in the NC game, and that guy (Josh Davis, I think) got to wear them. We all tried on the shoulder pads, and they were like the Cadillac of shoulder pads. Putting on those shoulder pads was one of the coolest things ive ever done.

Re: Best players Ever from your high school

Jake Peavy (Padres All Star)
Jean Felix (Bama Basketball)
Chevis Jackson (LSU DB)
Tiger Jones (Louisville WR)
Brent Johnson (Louisville Safety)

And a lot of college baseball and golfers.
Can I update Peavy to Cy Young winner?

Also, Mark Barron, Destin Hood, and Ivan Matchett.

Re: Best players Ever from your high school

I went to McAdory HS.

Bo Jackson and Jackie Cline.

I'm a good bit older than him, but Matt Caddell is a McAdory graduate also.

Re: Best players Ever from your high school

Chris Samuels and Kelvin Sigler - Shaw...well after I graduated. When I was there, Nat Oakley was a big receiver who ended up at N. Alabama. Ronnie Summers went to Troy, but I don't know if he stayed.

Josh Swords

Every Scholy out of H.S Field Goal Kicker since and including Proctors Senior year

A FEW OL'S

Michael Moore OL
Josh Swords OL
Napoleon Folks OL
Brent Clark OL
Rory Segrest OL
Chris Jordon OL
Matt Harrison OL
Sage Spree OL
Michael Barfield OL
Bart Raulston OL

Bart Raulston! This quote is from a '06 thread about worst underachievers in Bama history. Thus, the contributions of my school to Bama. :aiwebs_027: He played OL his first two seasons and moved to DL for his last two. His claim to fame is dunking the basketball in a game against rival Pisgah High School and shattering the back board!

Casey Rogersplayed at Mississippi St for the '05 and '06 seasons. You'll remember him as being the player that blew up Brandon Brooks on just about every punt return in the '05 MSU - Bama game.

Sam Graham played at UNA on the three-pete championship team. He later coached there as DL coach. Also, had a couple season as head coach at alma mater Sylvania High School and a couple at Albertville High School. He is the defensive coordinator at West Alabama currently.

Patrick Tatum was invited to walk on for the boogs. :( Oh well, he did make special teams player of the week for 9-24-07. :)
SEC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
PATRICK TATUM
Punter
AUBURN
6-2 • 205 • Freshman
Sylvania, Ala. (HS)
Tatum averaged 45.5 yards on four punts, with all four punts inside the 20-yard line, in Auburn's 55-20 win against New Mexico State.
New Mexico State average starting position was its own 20-yard line for the game. On Tatum's four punts, the Aggies' average starting field position was its own 12-yard line (8, 14, 15, 11 yardlines).
So far this season, Tatum has put seven of his 11 punts inside the 20-yard line, including two downed at the 1-yard line.

I went to a small high school (Cold Springs) that never had a football team worth spit. They're usually pretty good in basketball, however. Their boys team is currently ranked 3rd in the state in class 2A and the girls team is ranked 1st.

The football team had a good runningback in the early 90's. They also had a pitcher named Charlie Rogers that was in the Milwaukee Brewers organization for several years and holds some pitching records for the Miami Miracle in the Florida State League.

I didn't go to Cullman (Good Hope) but that Cullman team sent 5 players to UA that year, still a record for one high school I believe.

Re: Best players Ever from your high school

Since nobody at my went to any major colleges on athletic scholarships (although some signed with small schools such as Livingston or played baseball in the minor league system) I'm going to say ME.

Ron Middelton, Murray Hill, Don McNeal, Emmitt Smith, Roy Jones Jr., Walter Lewis, Buck Showalter, Anthony Pleasant are all from my "area".

Re: Best players Ever from your high school

Also, if Tristan Purifoy had not been screwed out of this season then he really would have done great.
