Re: Jemarcus Russells necklace

Why would you say "in your face" and "you coulda had me" to a school that recruited the heck out of you?

I noticed that...hehe. I thought it was funny myself. I'm sure he grew up a Bama fan. I think that is an accurate guess considering the alternative...

Who cares? To me...it look like a slap at LSU, more then anything. I mean you are a "guest" of the home team and your alma mater, and you happen to show up with a "bling-bling" that has "Bama Boy" with an elephant in the middle. I know, if I was an LSU fan, I would definately be annoyed.

But this just goes to show that just because you "graduate" from one school, does automatically make you a "lifelong" fan of the team. For example....Oregon State coach, Mike Riley...lead Alabama to 4 SEC titles (71-74) and a National Title (1973), in this state, would make you a folk hero. And yet...when he had an opportunity to return to Alabama in December of 2002, he decline.

There is a since of loyalty in terms of being a player to a certain school, but it no means, doesn't mean that a player HAS TO BECOME A LIFELONG, HARDCORE fan of the school he graduated from.

I don't think Uncle Ray Ray is a Bama fan, so I wouldn't think that Jamarcus would be either.

Actually Jamarcus has said he was an Alabama fan. However, as Earle pointed out, he was never going to come to Alabama with fRan as our coach or the impending probation issues we were having. He made the right choice (OBVIOUSLY), but that has never had anything to do with his first love, which is BAMA (The State and the School)!

Also, he is a HUGE fan of Coach Saban and would do anything for him that he could possibly do.

lsu fans could care less, let him wear what he wants - life is to short to get annoyed over things you can't control.

The first thing I noticed was how big he was compared to the people he was standing next to. I think he was showing his love for the school he grew up loving. Nothing wrong with that.

He is huge. When LSU came to town two years ago, he and, I think RP, came out to warm up sans pads - just sleeveless t-shirts. RP came out first (if I'm right) and he's pretty impressive. But, then, JM came running out and he was unbelievable. I've never seen anyone throw a football 60 yds with an underhanded, rock-skipping motion...

This is true to an extent, but he came to LSU because of Jimbo. Jimbo and Jamarcus are extremely tight.

I'm not going to debate WHY he went to LSU, however the 1st person he called after speaking with his family when he was drafted was Coach Saban and not Jimbo. That says all that needs to be said right there. He and his uncle truly love Coach Saban and have been interviewed on radio shows where they have both said so.

I am not denying that. But his love also extends to Jimbo. Jimbo had been recruiting Jamarcus since he was in the 9th grade. Jimbo was lead recruiter for him as well. Saban played a massive role as well, but what I have heard from him here, which is stuff you wouldn't hear in the media, is that Jimbo is as close to a father figure he has outside of Ray Ray. No doubt the Russell's respect the hell out of Saban though. Saban decided to keep recruiting Jamarcus even though he had two QB commits already. I give big props to Saban for that.

It is interesting that some former LSU players seem to like Coach Saban more than LSU. I remember Skyler Green saying he would root for Bama because of Saban over LSU back in November.

Since we're debated who is the more beloved...anyone notice that the recruiting guy got dunked last night then Pelini and that's it? At the end the camera was behind Les Miles and he was looking back and forth over his shoulders. I told my wife that he looked like, "Someone please dump gatorade over me." She said she was thinking the same thing. Probalby nothing to it, but it just struck me as odd at the time.

I noticed that too. Seemed kinda odd...

I missed that. Very interesting, indeed.
