Decline of the GOP - XVII

The 1970 team was integrated but freshmen couldn’t play varsity ball at the time.

Would have been nice if he had pushed for integration earlier but that wasn’t going to happen. He did allow Newton (who he hired on Adolf’s suggestion) to recruit black basketball players.

Earle, do you know if Bryant and George Wallace were on friendly terms?
The general belief on campus was that he tolerated GW, as he had to, given that he was the governor. But, no, there was no feeling that they were friends...

They deserve it.

As a reminder, though, not only have the Democrats patented blowing it, but the excuse from the great “my red hat is unwashed” will be “stolen elections!”

i am also chuckling at the lovefest the Republicans are having for the Frankenstein monster stand-in Senator from Pennsylvania.

I have never loathed a Senator as much as I do him. Well, maybe Kirsten Sinema and Joe Manchin would be dishonorable mentions.

Sounds like the GOPers when talking about Massie.

I'm not a fan of much of Fetterman's recent Trump-excusing (or a few of his votes), but I'll take 99 more of him over any one of the current GOP crop.

More corruption, this time in Alabama. Tuberville illegally votes in Alabama because he is a FL resident, but AL courts are just going to let it all happen anyway.

And he’s out. Massie was one of the few men in Congress I actually respected and of course, he’s tossed by the Fox News-watching boomers. He did better with all other demographics, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the unemployed people who have nothing better to do than go vote.
The Cult of Trump tossed that guy out. He dared to criticize their messiah and they made him pay the price.

Fetterman is proof that it's style over substance.

With a few notable exceptions, the guy votes down the line with Team Blue.

But because he won't castrate his genitals in typical "every other kid is jumping off the bridge in town, Mom, so I should be able to as well" fashion, he gets pilloried.

This is where arrogance always permeates politics. Why do the political parties - Blue MAGA as well as MAGA - think, "well, we won that seat in a swing state so now it's ours forever" and then act like that?

There are far worse guys to have in your caucus than John Fetterman.

And I think the Republican "I like this guy" stems more from HOW he says it than WHAT he says.

I have never loathed a Senator as much as I do him.

Yes, he's definitely far worse than having had a Senate Majority Leader who was a member of the Ku Klux Klan, I agree.

And for anyone wanting to go the "but he renounced the Klan" route, he went on Fox News and used the N-word in 2001.

Well, maybe Kirsten Sinema and Joe Manchin would be dishonorable mentions.

Yes, it's a damn shame they didn't hand Donald Trump a Senate with an abolished filibuster now, isn't it?

On a more serious note - again - Sinema was a 90% plus reliable blue vote. Blue MAGA got lucky the Arizona GOP has been taking a double dose of crazy pills for years.

By the way - I'm convinced the propaganda nonsense job the DNC pulled getting stroke victim Fetterman elected is why they thought they could get away with telling us, "What you see with Biden is NOT real!" It's one thing to pull off that magic act in a state, but it's impossible in the television era to pull it off with a President.

I can understand your disappointment with Fetterman, but there are FAR WORSE options, too.

And I hope you're taking that into account with the Nazi tattoo wearing, racist on Reddit posting, "I won't release my military records but I'm a disabled vet" owner of an AR-15 in Maine.

And anyone saying, "yeah, he's a risk but my team needs the seat," congratulations on situational ethics turning folks into the very same MAGA voters they despise. "I'll vote for a Nazi tattoo wearing racist because he's a Democrat" ain't any different than "I'll vote for X because he's a Republican." Not a damn bit. Graham Platner has - as the common refrain goes - showed everyone who he is BEFORE the election.

He and I wouldn't agree on much, but I do believe he was ousted for doing what is right.

I look back at Nixon's downfall. It took people like Barry Goldwater and Howard Baker to finally bring down a tyrant.

Today's Republican Party doesn't have leaders with the cojones to stand up to a tyrant. Massie's loss is a reminder that, if you cross the Orange Anus, there will be consequences to your Hill career.

In other words, like my Dad used to say, at least Mussolini made the trains run on time. :D

There is such a thing as damning with faint praise.

I understand what you are saying, I truly do. I don't mind that Fetterman supports the war effort in Iran. I disagree, but fine. Even if you support the war, you should also want the president and Congress to follow the law. He's basically saying the president should have unlimited war powers with this vote. That's wrong.

All I want is for someone in DC to do what they are required to do by law. Declare war or pass an AUMF. All it takes is a simple majority, which the GOP has, so why can't they get this done? How incompetent is this Congress?

i guess that 91% support just wasn't dedicated enough

My MAGA brother was emboldened by the Massie defeat. He was back on the Greenland, Cuba, Venezuela, Iran kick. I just laughed. Membership in MAGA must come with a strong script for halucinagenic drugs.

Oh, and once Musk launches his billion dollar bottle rocket this week, SpaceX stock will go out the roof.
