Bama softball is the #1 seed in the NCAA tournament. Congratulations Ladies and RTR!

I see that Bama faces UCLA in our opening game of the CWS. Seems like I remember a few years ago UCLA sent us home. Hopefully we can return the favor.
UCLA did bounce us one year. But a few years ago, Montana Fouts pitched a perfect game against them in the WCWS. Not sure if that was the year they sent us packing or another year.

UCLA has several home run hitters, including the nation's leader in total HR's. I think our pitching can counter that. Looks like we have game 4, the late game on Thursday. ROLL TIDE!

I didn't get to post anything over the weekend, but did see the games. I was at my cousin's in Gulf Shores enjoying a little beach weekend. The on/off rain delays about did me in on Saturday, but we prevailed.

Our defense is playing great, and our pitching has been stellar. Briski has thrown back to back 1 hitters in the regionals and super regionals. I hear she did the Friday game against LSU with a respiratory infection. That's some guts there. Great job. I hope we can get some of our better bats back in gear for the WCWS, particularly. A couple of them seem to be slumping just a bit. We will need them to get thru OKC.

Oh, and I really can't believe that Mississippi State sent OU packing - at OU. That's a huge surprise.

It depends where you look. I've seen one site say game 4, but ESPN says we have game 3 at 6 PM.

If I recall, it was FSU sent us packing that year beating us twice after the UCLA win. Our record against UCLA is far from stellar, 1-10 maybe. Hopefully Fouts broke that hoodoo that they had on us for good.

I read somewhere that the field at UCLA is shorter so that is one reason they seem to have more home runs than usual. Not sure what the requirements are (have not had a chance to look up how their field compares to ours, for example).. but when they play in the WCWS, I believe the fence will be a bit further out than their home field. Of course they still have great hitters like OU does though.

What I found (as of 2024):

Minimum feet for CF is 220. Maximum is 230-250
Minimum feet for LF/RF is 190. Max is 200-220.

UCLA is 190 for LF/RF and 210 for CF.
Bama is 200 for LF/RF and 220 for CF.

So yeah, UCLA field is smaller.

There has been a significant discussion about that throughout the course of the season. The move this season to give less calls “in the river” was a point of emphasis. It is why many believe we are seeing more scoring and home runs.

Somevnow are saying umpires need to start “giving some of it back” to the pitchers..

Well, I say, if it's a strike, call it a strike, and if it's a ball, call it a ball. I don't want to see the game manipulated just so teams can score more runs.
