*** 2013 Fall Camp Thread ***

As many know, Phil Savage (Bama's color guy) also is in charge of the Senior Bowl. He visited practice today and tweeted what he saw. Mods, you can delete the second tweet if you like.

@SeniorBowlPhil

Three things that set #Bama apart right now: practice with a purpose, fundamental coaching and more #NFL body types than anyone else.
In #NFL scout lingo, not sure how else to put it, but #RolllTide has most "butts" and "legs" in college game. Pro body types all over field.
QB Blake Sims took most of 2nd team reps today, although Alec Morris is very much in hunt for backup role behind @10AJMcCarron.
Proven OL depth still a concern this early in camp. #Bama coaches waiting for young linemen to emerge, may not happen until mid-year.
Corner depth has improved for #Bama over summer. With Deion Belue to field, John Fulton is into boundary. Geno Smith is working Nickel.
For #Bama, like the way Cyrus Jones looks at DC, he moved from WR in spring. #21 Maurice Smith, freshman, also caught eye today.
Better at DC spot than anticipated, safeties are secure for #Bama with Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix, Vinnie Sunseri, Landon Collins and Nick Perry.
One note for #PortCity #Mobile followers, both FS Jarrick Williams and RB Jalston Fowler fully participating and look healthy.
Primary outside pass rushers for #RollTide will be Adrian Hubbard and Denzel Devall. If they can create pressure, back seven can play pass.
#Bama linebackers really look the part. CJ Mosley, Tre DePriest, Tana Patrick, Dillon Lee and Reuben Foster all on inside.
#Bama
Hubbard, Devall, Ryan Anderson and Anthony Orr working from outside. And should mention Reggie Ragland as ILB, too.
#Bama DL depth coming along with vets Brandon Ivory, Ed Stinson, Geoffrey Pagan and Xzavier Dickson.
Young #Bama DL that flashed incl/ Darren Lake, Dalvin Tomlinson, Dee Liner and Jonathan Allen. This group progressing faster than OL, IMO

That's very very surprising and encouraging. If the DL is progressing faster than the OL I would love it, if true, because CNS likes the way the OL is progressing. If the corners are coming along, this defense may take leaps forwards instead of steps.

Phil Savage was counting Dickson as a DE instead of LB. I've been saying that our best LB grouping for pass rush was Devall and Hubbard with Pagan, Stinson, and Dickson rotating around at DE. Pagan could probably play either DE spot with Dickson mainly playing SDE.

Absolutely love reading all the camp notes.

Maybe I missed it, but what's the latest on Landon Collins and how is he grading out in camp?

If he's ready to play...Collins and HaHa is you prototypical safety combo. Rangy middle-of-the-field guy in HaHa and a guy who seems like a mini linebacker in Collins.

Nick Perry didn't impress me last year but he has the knowledge base to hopefully develop into at least a non-liability. Also, Jarrick Williams was probably the starter beside Lester last year before his injury. So maybe he's a forgotten darkhorse here.

I felt Fulton, Belue, and Smith was good enough to win with if they didn't get any dings or major injuries. Considering Fulton's history, that may be too much to expect. Of course, Lacy was the same story until 2012 too. It's big that Cy Jones has developed greatly because he may be needed in a pinch this year.

Pagan is probably going to have a breakout season. We'll start to see more of that pocket pushing pass rush we loss after Dareus went pro. Robinson and Liner don't look like any joke by those pictures either.

8/9 Practice Pics

Ok, last time I do this without asking - how do I retitle these links as "click me" or the like?

Anyway, the whole team looks great.

If A'Shawn looks like this as a freshman, imagine in a couple of years. Yikes!

It's easy, just use the bbcode:
(url=http://tidesports.photoshelter.com/gallery/PHOTOS-8-9-Fall-Practice/G00006xjkaEhBdGw)click me!(/url)
but use brackets [] instead of parenthesis ()...

click me!

You can also click the little 'earth with a chain link icon' in the editor:
oat0.png
and edit the result, it does the same thing I wrote above but adds the url as the text, so it will look like this:
(URL="http://tidesports.photoshelter.com/gallery/PHOTOS-8-9-Fall-Practice/G00006xjkaEhBdGw")http://tidesports.photoshelter.com/gallery/PHOTOS-8-9-Fall-Practice/G00006xjkaEhBdGw(/URL)
(you'd replace the part in bold with what you want to show up as the link in the post)...
