*** 2013 Fall Camp Thread ***

The way tailback went last year, I hope we start 5 deep so that we have options ready to go in the event of injuries.

Thanks, RTR. Sounds like a manageable scattering of nicks and bumps, with no significant injuries so far. Staying major-injury free will be a key to this (and any) team in the run for the Big Dance.

B. Sims must be coming on. I kind of thought Morris would bump him for first backup QB.

If you watch the videos of the running backs (might be Altee's video), you'll see the QBs and RBs practicing the read option. If AJ would keep the ball on the read, he'd gain about 10 yards because everyone will crash the RB.

Personally, i don't want AJ taking those licks if he doesn't have to!!! Waaaaay too much talent at receiver for AJ to get creamed tryin to pick up 10 or so yards!!

SEC Championship Game against South Carolina this winter.

4th and Goal at the 6 inch line.

Shotgun formation with 1 back. 4 wide. no TE.

AJ snaps the ball and runs a read option. Clowney dives in to stop TJ. AJ walks in.

The problem is the game wouldn't be that close. Roll Tide!

I would much rather see 3 TE's with Nudie at FB and TJ at RB and run it behind Cyko.

He scrambles when he has to. Bama ran the zone-read with AJ at QB last year; he just handed the ball off. I'm not talking about doing it every drive or something. Just once a game (if that often). It'd keep the DE/LB honest, allowing the RB even more yards.

With all the talent we added at once, it's hard for me to believe that we won't have one or two transfers over PT. Hard to tell a guy who could start for any other SEC team that he's #5...

You're probably right, but I hope these guys will also see that there is value in patience. Eddie Lacy is the perfect example. He waited his turn and last year (and now) was his reward.

And there is something to be said for sharing carries because it keeps them fresh and cuts down on the possibility of injuries.

I gotta agree with timmer. RB's got plenty last year and even with a reworked OL I would have to think they could do it again with all that talent. The thought of AJ going down makes me think back to when BC went down with no proven backup...

That's the beauty of already being pretty-much loaded across the board. We needed to get two really good backs this year. We had the luxury of bringing in 4 and letting them fight it out! We win no matter what. The ones that see themselves getting passed up either assert themselves and find another niche where they can contribute or they throw in the towel and transfer (opening up another schollie to do it all again with the next class)! In the meantime, the extra competition in practice pushes the guys at the top to improve more than they would otherwise.

I love it

Practice report for today

  • There continues to be a quiet intensity on the field. This is a serious football team.
