2023 RIP Thread

Jimmy Buffet has gone to the great Margaritaville in the sky. He was 76.
Now he gets to waste away in Margarativille forever.
My brother attended McGill Institute with JB, briefly, before JB got expelled and went to St. Stanislaus in Bay Saint Louis (?).
He had two sisters - Laurie and Lucy. Laurie is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met (unlike her siblings). She is/was married to Tom McGuane and lives in Wyoming (Montana? Somewhere up there).
Lucy (“LuLu”) was my age and she went to Bishop Toolen and married one of my childhood bf’s and had two daughters.
After Hurricane Frederic, JB had a concert for disaster relief. Snake Stabler opened the show holding Savannah, who was an infant.
JB was also good friends with a proprietor of a local drinking/eating establishment which was a popular hangout in Baldwin County. He showed up there several times (not playing) when I was there.
He finally found his One Particular Harbor, and he will be missed.

Years ago I did a sermon -- Jesus Visits Margaritaville. One of the most requested to repeat I have ever had. I thought about a book -- The Gospel according to Jimmy Buffett, but a publisher friend said I would never get JB to agree to that. Each sermon would be a different song...A Pirate Looks at 40 was one I wanted to do but never did. Alas, my younger staff told me that he was too old to be current 20 years ago. Ha...

Sad to see him struggle with his health and die so young.

But it's also sad that this means we're going to hear their insufferable hit song over and over for the next week...
