2026 Midterms Discussion

Of course Trump has contemplated a number of actions including using a tactical nuclear weapon on Irans's enriched uranium storage and has theratened to bomb Iran's infrastructure. power plants, bridges and desalination plants. If that happans Iran will do the same against the countries with US bases in the region. Trump and Netyanhu are facing the prospect of a global recession at a minimum.
I wonder what percentage of the voting public really realize at this point just what he's gotten us (and the world) into? I wish we could get him a set of GI Joes or something similar, so he could play war without getting us into such abysmal holes...

They are myopic, they will be for it until their sons come home in body bags.

Remember, he has to have a ground invasion to consider national emergency to try suspend elections. We have had elections in the past during war but the past is not indicative of the future with this president.

I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to pull a suspension. I also wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of federal courts promptly enjoined him. In fact, as I said above, the emergency petitions to the SCOTUS are already in draft form. I think they would either pull the court back into session or issue a "shadow docket" decision...

We are all going to have our socks literally blown off tonite when he reveals that foreign powers have interfered in our elections and that no democrat has won an office in 20 years without illegal immigrants voting for them by the millions.

Funny thing is... If they really play up China interfering in 2020... Are they going to discuss Russian interference from 2016 onwards?

There's been no doubt that he's not planning on ever leaving the WH.

The surprising answer is: possibly. It’s no secret that the feds have been investigating this again, specifically the Obama administration’s role in it. Having said all that, I’m not watching it and I’m not at all interested in the opinions of the people who do.

Safety precaution: don't wear socks.

He'll ASSERT it.
He'll claim big crap.
He won't prove anything other than his ability to not prove anything.

The better question is why in the hell should this jackass remain President if he actually let China interfere in an election in 2020 WHILE HE WAS PRESIDENT.

2016, Obama in charge? On the up and up.
2024, Biden in charge? On the up and up.

The only election he's asserting was stolen happened under HIS watch.

And for any cute little warm and fuzzies among us who want to argue Biden wasn't in charge but a bunch of goons were, you might ought to consider that doesn't HELP your case.

No illegal immigrants have come into the country in the last 14 months.

How the hell was that possible without a wall?

(I swear, this is the drunken uncle in the bar).

Hahaha! Missed my /s there too.

I won’t watch him. Will wait for the dismantling of his lies to come.

I don't believe or trust anything coming out of Trump's controlled feds, especially as long as the idiot Kash Patel has the job. This man is an uneducated hack. When you have an administration who trys to subpoena every journalist who writes an article Trump doesn't like, blatantly ignoring the First Amendment, how can anyone trust an investigation coming from this office?

Russia helped influence the 2016 election and helped Trump win. Trump has done nothing but deflect, deny, and call it a democratic hoax.

Suddenly, the tune changes when China helps the other side win. Now, all of a sudden, it is a problem that is destroying this nation.

Give me a break.

Foreign influence is not actually casting ballots. The voting machines are not as hackable as Trump claims. Most are not even connected to the internet and would need physical access to hack. All voting machines have a paper trail that can be counted by hand. No irregularities have been found, and Trump still has not presented any hard evidence of massive voter fraud, even after last night's stupid speech.

The foreign influence is done through social media and social engineering. And if I recall, it is the stupid GOP and MAGA supporters that refuse to let social media sites moderate themselves and remove the deceptive posts. Why, you ask. Because so many of their posts are deceptive and full of misinformation, and they were getting removed as well. Ah, boo hoo. These sites have the tools and capability to stop this, or greatly reduce its influence, but it is this stupid administration in charge that will not let them.

I do not believe there is foreign influence at the voting booth. It has nothing to do with voter IDs. Trump is whining that China has stolen state voter registers while they are considered public information. Is it illegal for foreign countries to have them? Yes, but they don't have to hack anything to get them.

This is all nonsense meant to do nothing but sow doubt in our elections from a blowhard that does nothing but lie every time he opens his mouth.

Senator Warner was on with Jen Paski after Trump's speech and intelligently discussed all of the bi-partisan investigations that have been conducted during and following Trumps first term. Conclusion a number of countries have made efforts to influence our elections but the fact that they are held at the state and local level makes it extremely difficult to accomplish. There has never been any evidence that voting machines have been compromised.

I have always been positively inclined toward Warner.

I agreed with the rest of your post, I even agree with most of what's here, especially since you qualified it later.

It's just it becomes (for many, not you) a tired talking point: "Russia influenced the election and helped Trump win."

OK, how did they do this?

"Social media, yadda yadda."

The problem I have with this is NOT that Russia didn't, say, send out phony stories about Hillary but rather the idea that there were even hundreds, much less thousands much less MILLIONS of people who were on (say) Facebook and said:

"I'm for Hillary" and then saw something on Facebook from Russia and said, "Wow, she's a bad person, I'm gonna vote for Trump!" Or the alternative, her voters were for her, heard something bad about her and then decided to stay home. It only matters if those voters were in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. It literally matters not a whit if she lost one million votes in California because of that operation.

What's funny is that before she was nominated, the justification was, "Her negatives are well-known, people already know whether they like or don't like her." But after she lost, it all became, "Well, she had it won but then James Comey, then the Russians, then" and every excuse imaginable that never addresses why she never set foot in Wisconsin in the fall campaign.

I only cringe when I read this (again, I'm piggybacking on your post, I know you didn't say this) because it's become the backdoor way partisan Democrats try to pretend "Trump stole the election" in 2016. And btw - lest anyone think I'm exaggerating - here are Democrats saying that very thing:

“I think a full investigation would show that Trump didn’t actually win the election in 2016. He lost the election, and he was put into office because the Russians interfered on his behalf."
- former President Jimmy Carter

"You can run the best campaign, you can even become the nominee, and you can have the election stolen from you."
- former First Lady Hillary Clinton

"I don't see this president-elect as a legitimate president...I think the Russians participated in helping this man get elected. And they helped destroy the candidacy of Hillary Clinton."
- House Rep. and civil rights icon John Lewis

And btw - Allen and Parmes reported in their book "Shattered", on page 400:

In other calls with advisers and political surrogates in the days after the election, Hillary declined to take responsibility for her own loss. “She’s not being particularly self-reflective,” said one longtime ally who was on calls with her shortly after the election. Instead, Hillary kept pointing her finger at Comey and Russia. “She wants to make sure all these narratives get spun the right way,” this person said. That strategy had been set within twenty-four hours of her concession speech. Mook and Podesta assembled her communications team at the Brooklyn headquarters to engineer the case that the election wasn’t entirely on the up-and-up. For a couple of hours, with Shake Shack containers littering the room, they went over the script they would pitch to the press and the public. Already, Russian hacking was the centerpiece of the argument.

"We lost because of the Russians" is just another in the long line of excuses of why they never REALLY lose elections, someone steals it from them.

Voting is nowhere near the cognitive and intellectual act pretended by "well, she was gonna win but Comey, but Russia." That narrative only works if you CHANGE VOTES. It has no effect on votes already decided. (What's funny is BEFORE the election, Democrats were bragging about all those early votes they'd supposedly won - NONE of those early votes could have been affected by stuff that happened after the voting).

Very good points. The only distinction is that very few Hillary voters or Democrats today would state that she won the election. I certainly wouldn't... I do think many other states (even friendly ones like the Brits and the French) try to influence elections, but they don't interfere and change anything.

Honestly... Hillary lost because she was a terrible candidate and widely unliked amongst Democrats.
