3 UT players arrested last night

CBI,
If it were me and I was surprised to find that my two companions for the evening were in the middle of an armed robbery, deflating the situation would not be my top priority. I think I would be vociferously surprised, royally angry and more than little concerned about getting out of the situation with my person and reputation intact. Just me, I guess. :)

My guess is that your friends aren't the type to commit armed robbery.

We are not saying he's an innocent bystander...He was in the car at 2AM on the Strip, and there was pot in the car...Those two points right there throw out the "innocent bystander" status...We're just saying that there's a very good chance he knew nothing about the robbery (and some info is even saying he tried to stop the other two from doing it)...If the latter is the caes, I do not think that warrants kicking JJ off the team

Here's CLK's dilemma...If JJ truly had nothing to do with the robbery, then IMO, he doesn't deserve to be kicked off, but he does deserve to be suspended for the rest of year, if for no other reason that stupidity...Problem is, if he doesn't kick him off, the negative recruiting and the national media are going to be brutal bc they aren't going to tell the story that JJ had nothing to do with it bc people recruiting against us don't want others to know that and it doesnt make a good story in the media...They are going to say that JJ got to stay on the team bc he is the future All-American candidate...So becomes the question, do you kick him off for PR (even if he may not deserve it)?

I have no idea (nor does anyone other than those three and probably the coaches by this point) what happened...So, I want to be clear that I'm not saying JJ had nothing to do with it, I'm just throwing out the scenario of "what if" he had nothing to do with it?
I would certainly be willing to give JJ the benefit of the doubt until the facts are known. It's certainly possible that he didn't know what was happening, it sounds like he broke up the robbery, and it's possible that the weed found in the car belonged to the driver. I don't know the details, but it would be a shame to condemn this young man who has such a potentially huge future for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. With this said, I realize that he has a couple strikes against him already and he shouldn't get off scott free just for being out that late. But I'm not ready to crucify him just yet until the hard facts are known. It looks bad for the other two, and I don't have much sympathy for them if what I've heard is true. What a waste!

JJ was released from jail on his own, without having to post bond; the other two had to post bonds to get bailed out.
So, maybe the authorities see his participation in the whole thing as less severe than the other two. I'm not saying he is or isn't guilty of anything, but with the other two having to post bonds and him walking out on his own recognizance, well...somebody thinks he didn't really do much.

Either that, or he has better legal representation than anyone else.

Even with a "great" lawyer, a college freshman "involved" in an armed robbery isn't likely to have too many judges let them walk out with no bail...and if the judge was a Vol fan, well, he must have taken it out on the other two (although their bonds weren't that high...$15000 and $17000 or therabouts, I think).
But, he wasn't ID'd by the victims (correct?), so maybe there is more of a question concerning his "involvement"...

"they were loopy from late night studying and weren't thinking straight".

Not thinking straight maybe. But did you see the video of the two vics posted above? They do not appear to be scholars. Even using the rather loose standards employed by the Shining City of the Hill.

Hell,,, if I came out a store and my PARENTS were robbing someone at gunpoint, no way I'd get back in the vehicle with them. He should have ran back into the store like most innocent folks would have done. It may never be proven in court, but he knew exactly what was going on.

JJ got the best defense attorney in Knoxville to represent him. Guess what he is a huge UT fan and supporter. No surprise there.

Also no charges have been dropped. All three have to show up in court in two weeks.

Arrested UT players out of jail, not playing this week

This one is also funny regarding JJ past history of failing drug tests and his other off the field activities.

Great mug shots including CLK:) with several interesting videos. UT sites do sucha good job providing info.

Kiffin: Players' status on hold GoVolsXtra

The Tennessee media is making a big thing out of Kiffen's "decision" not to play the three suspects this weekend.

Um, excuse me for a second, but let me point out a minor detail....

One of them is STILL in jail
The other two are out on FELONY bond, which usually prohibits suspects from leaving the COUNTY let alone the state.

Yeah, you're a real disciplinarian Lane. Way to go. When Elder held up a student with a pellet gun Saban announced his dismissal within 36 hours of the arrest... and that was in the off-season when they only meet with the press once a week. Most likely the decision was made within a couple of hours.

Same with Jimmy Johns. He was arrested at about 8:30 am and kicked off the team by lunch.

I think we sometimes believe that football programs exist in a vacuum and that in this case, the head coach has the final say in decisions involving his players and program. With an embarrassing and highly publicized incident like this, I'd bet that CLK had a lot of input from others on "his" decision.

UT is a scum-bag program. If Trent, Nico, and Reamer were involved in this, they'd be off the team in 5 minutes. Our fans would recognize it as being unfortunate but necessary, and we'd move on. At UT, these low-life ARMED ROBBERS(!) are being treated as if they somehow are the victims, are still on the team, and their fans still want them to play. Typical of UThug. I could and would say a heck of a lot more than this, but this is a family web site.

I keep hearing up here that this thing may not be over....I don't know if in a good way, or a bad way. They could be referring to the possible "drug deal gone bad" twist.

Interesting.
You know I've wondered exactly how the girl ties into it too. Not any info at all on her, and really no speculation as to why she was with them. If it was for the weed, that would make sense but its just a bit odd other than that.

Holding up a drug dealer at a gas station with a pellet gun = MEGA-FAIL!!!

edited to add: I've done shooting courses with guys in the Knoxville area who are very locked-on individuals. They obviously carry and are very good with real guns (one is a former Navy SEAL who travels the area often). Real gun > pellet gun. Trained guy with real gun > stupid kids with pellet guns.

I thought I would post this... I actually saw this on another Bama board, but anyhoo...
Scroll down the page & you'll find links to various articles from all over on the subject.
Its not all positive. People will be watching Kiffin to see how he handles this.

Tennessee's rebuilding progress arrested for the moment GoVolsXtra

a good point was posted that it's one thing for a new coach to come in and have a soph, jr or sr act like an idiot...those aren't 'his' guys. So his name isn't as muddy as when a Freshman, HIS recruit, acts like a fool. Yeah, he's got a lot riding on this one.

That's what I said. Even a UT freshman should be smart enough to take a real weapon to a drug deal that might go south.

And if Fickelfoose (or whatever his name is) is really a drug dealer, why's he driving a 98 Elantra? Wouldn't be be driving some pimped out Crown Vic or Caprice? I mean... "C'mon, Man!"

heard a good addition to an old quote today:

"until I hear there is a cure for cancer, and the cure was discovered at 1:45 am, I will continue to believe that nothing good ever happens after midnight."
