3 UT players arrested last night

So, if your family can afford an attorney you bond goes from 15k to nothing regardless of what you have done?

Had Jackson been the one to pull the gun and ask for money this would still have happened?

Man you've earned and been treated with a lot of respect on this board over the years. Trying to split hairs about the degree of guilt involved in being the one that held the gun or just one of the guys along for the robbery isn't the way to maintain it. Most of your friends here and the more rational among us have stated first, we hate to see any kid anywhere throw their life away. Second that we will have to wait and see what comes out in the investigation. Third, well there isn't a third. Anyway, those that are laughing it up and making jokes need to be ignored anyway. So just wait and see what comes out. If he did nothing wrong he and TN have nothing to worry about.

Kiffen has taken several guys with questionable character. I don't know where these guys fit and really don't see a big problem with it anyway if it's managed properly. It will be interesting to se where this goes and what the culture is going to be in Knoxville under Kiffen. It's a real dilemna for him with these guys being among the jewels of his first class. Wasn't JJ the one that agreed to hide his commitment until the kid from Georgia signed?

It will be interesting.

Good lawyers are good negotiators.

Jackson bonding out? Absolutely.

Look, you know as well as I do that if you have money, you can get a good lawyer. And a good lawyer is gonna get you out of jail. Period. S/He may not get you out of the rap, but you aren't spending many nights in the joint unless you've been caught with a dead girl or a live boy. Or, multiples thereof (as the case is in Cleveland). Jackson's father is gainfully employed in an industry that pays its participants well.

A good criminal defense attorney who believes he's gonna be paid for his services is going balls to the wall to get his client out of jail. First things first.

I agree with you. I think it will all come out in the wash. If he is guilty, I think he should go. If not, I think he should stay.

I agree we have to wait and see what comes out in the investigation. That is all Kiffin has said so far. I have read that Jackson met with Hamilton and Kiffin this evening and people aren't sure if Edwards was going to meet with them tonight or not.

From what I have read, at this point, Kiffin has not ruled Jackson out for Saturday. I guess we will see tomorrow when the team leaves for Oxford, as some sort of short term decision has to be made for this weekend.

It sucks that this has happened to my team, but today has been nothing short of interesting....in a bad way :)

Can't post from work, so I'm a little late to the party, but a couple of thoughts:

First, Karma's a real female dog when she gets upset. Between Fulmer, Kramer, and now Kiffin, UT's reaping what it sowed several years ago.

Still, my hat's off to Kiffin. He seems to have generated a Karmic response in record time.

Second: Forget the football team, I don't know how any university keeps these guys in school. Unless something new comes to light, they're about to be felons convicted of a violent crime. This isn't smash & grab, shoplifting, or a barroom brawl. It's a violent crime that all too often escalates into something far more serious than armed robbery.

I know, I know, innocent until proven guilty, etc., etc. But against at least two of them, there's been lots of adverse evidence, nothing to suggest anything other than what it appears to be on the surface, and a deafening silence out of Kiffin (isn't irony sweet?) and the UT athletic and academic administration.

For the third, he might not have brandished the weapon or demanded the money, but he participated in the crime and at the very least didn't report it. In the eyes of the law, he's just as guilty as the others. Might get a lighter punishment in view of his lesser participation, but unless there's something else out there we don't know about, he also stands a real good chance of being a felon convicted of a violent crime.

I don't know how you keep them in school, much less on the football team.

Wonder if Urban Meyer is crossing himself that he didn't end up with NuKeese, or snickering at Kiffin's comeuppance. Maybe both.

Supposedly the lawyer representing him is one of the best in the Knoxville area...think his name is Bosch

I believe Jackson and Richardson were both asked to "deceive" the other school involved...Richardson was considered a fairly strong LSU lean until signing day.

I thought Richardson was a Florida lean. Jackson's "reason" for the delay was supposedly one of his parents was out of town on NSD. Many say they did this so UT could get Myles and Jackson.

I've been defending the kids all day long, but Kiffen not ruling out all 3 players for the game Saturday is undefendable. Heck, it would be good for the kids to hang out with their families--sorry if it ruins your chances to get the road win, Lane.

JJ will probably get a slap on the wrist and serve a suspension for a few games. He will also probably end up in jail again later in life because it seems he has no respect for authority. So jail him now or later.. really don't matter. His day will come.

Seems to me I remember a real famous coach saying that "you can control the discisions you make, but not the consequences of those discisions."

Good for him. I'd want the best representing me, too.

BTW, you have a PM.

got it and responded

Sadly, you are probably right. The kid has a ton of talent...but doesn't seem that bright. I think he has the ability to make us never miss Eric Berry on the field....but does not seem to be the same type person off the field.

Not sure what will come of this for Jackson or any of them for that much. Here is a Tweet from Wes Rucker (covers the Vols for a Chattanooga paper) at about 10am this morning:

Wes Rucker said:
Just heard from a source I trust that #Vols coaches are intensely investigating Janzen Jackson's role in this morning's situation.

Hopefully this is true and the right decision is made about him.

I'm still puzzled by the lack of a statement from Kiffin.

He needs to di something. Say something. Anything.

Did I miss it?

I'm actually glad he hasnt...How many times have coaches, players, etc made a hasty comment, then either had to back off it (and be called a liar) or had to stick with it even though it may have not been the right thing to do, but bc they said it, there was not way to go back

I'm glad he's waiting, but I do hope he announces something tomorrow, so it's not as much of a distraction for hte team going to Oxford

I think one should wait and see how "aggravated" the incident supposedly was. I am also big on second chances--these are kids, and if you strip everything away from them (football, scholarship, school), then what are they supposed to do next? But I do think it is the responsibility of the coaching staff to: a) bring in kids that will be a good fit to the team and the university (i.e. think hard about dragging kids thousand miles away from home); b) watch over and mentor these young men.

So are you really saying that you shouldn't kick someone off the team for armed robbery? Man you sound like Steve Spurrier.

Of course he will make a statement, he will say JJ was there to give moral support to the victims and was only in the car to get a coke. Be interested to see what nukeese sings to about his recruitment when he realizes its all over for him.
