September will tell us a lot about this team. I don't really expect to come out of September without at least 1 loss and it could very well be 2. It's what we learn from that month and how we respond going forward that tells the rest of the story.

After September, I think we start to see some good steps forward and by November we should be pretty dang good on offense. D will be better, but that is the biggest question mark. If the OL takes control midseason on we will be hard to stop, but can we stop the other teams O, that is the question.

That being said, I don't see why we will not be good enough to be able to take either LSU or AU or maybe even both. Injuries will play a key role as well.

If we end up 8-4 regular season, we done big. We could end up 7-5. Anything better than that is just gravy. I love gravy! Let's get some!

yes I just curious since we do have high expectations for this coach and rightfully so how long will we wait for those expectations to come to fruition

Just wondered did he have a free pass to be there for 7 or 8 years without doing anything

I am not expecting it in one or two years however I am expecting it and you should too.

If after 5 years - we have not contended for the NC will you be dissapointed - I will be very disappointed - I honestly think he was hired to put us back at the top

I guess I am asking innocently what are your expectations for Saban the next five years in regards to Alabama football

2 or 3 years to become an SEC contender - You gotta be kidding.

5 loses yeah right - if it takes him 2-3 years to just become a contender in the SEC then we best gas up the plane. He is here to win the NC not contend for the SEC. He has five years like the previous coach to get it done otherwise we best put call in to Bob Stoops

I could coach 'em to 8 wins with this team, staff & schedule
Folks take note here, pay close attention. This is exactly the type of fan that will cause Coach Saban to run from Alabama.

I expect coach Saban to contend for the SEC championship by 2009 and I expect him to have won one within his first say 5-6 seasons. The idea of being a national championship contender seems sort of mythical because there's absolutely nothing a team can do to become one. Only the media can decide who falls into that category. All we can do is focus on winning each game and getting to the top of our competition (the SEC). When we do that the national championship picture will take care of itself.

I disagree this kind of attitude is why Saban is here - we expect to win football games - He is well aware of that.

The patronzing and already making excuses would probably not please Coach Saban at all - I am sure he would like for us to believe in him and not have low expectations or doubt his ability to coach.

I believe in his ability as a Coach & TEACHER and I am looking forward to the season

He knows we expect great things and I am sure he expects them also else he would not be here.

I think high expectations is a good thing.

I would say the expectation of winning SEC championships as soon as 3-5 years from where we are now is a very high expectation. I certainly think that high expectations are a good thing, but it's also important to know one's self when making high expectations else you may find you've made unrealistic expectations.

For sure, 10 wins will take a miracle on defense. Some older guys who've been moved around or were originally walkons will have to invent a whole new persona. OR, incoming frosh will have to come in and surprise. Not that it can't happen, but Saban has been at pains to try to get our fan base to think realistically about the process. From all the "ten wins or I'm disappointed" posts, I can tell he's not getting through...
I will have to agree with Earle. 10 wins would be nice, but not likely. I see 8 wins at the most. With maybe a sleeper in there somewhere. We will have to have some frosh step up and make some plays........:BigA:

All Coach Saban is interested in is doing what he wants, the way that he wants and having those under him doing the same thing.

What Coach Saban is not interested in is the fans telling him what to do, how to do it and how long he has to do it.

Let Coach Saban begin September with 3 losses and some yahoo, like you, will start yelling for his head. This is exactly what we do not need. We don't need any more drunk blonds meeting him at the air port and stop wearing those stupid SabanNation tee shirts. It will be Alabama fans who will make Nick run for his life from Alabama.

He has not coached a game yet and already some can see him being forced out.
Shameful talk for any fan. I think we fans should do sometning very rare, just shut up about things like that.

Shula was hired to be fired. Saban was hired to stay for a long time. No fans expectations exceed Saban's desire to win and win immediately.

Fans carping about records and championships before Saban has coached his first game is pointless and foolish.

I'll chock it up to summertime football withdrawl, but we need to resist the urge to go into this sort of discussion.

Coach Stallings started out 0-3 and there were some that called for his head. We must be patient and let the staff do their work......8-5 and a bowl would be nice.:BigA:

I believe the goal of winning the SEC is a lofty goal. There are too many things that have to be in place to be in the MNC game. Playing in a BCS game is even a challenge during this age of football. I am not lowering my expectations just being realistic about them. Being realistic is one of our members favorite buzz words isn't it? ;)

I will be pleased to see Alabama as a top 20 team every year, playing in a bowl and contending for the SEC championship more often than not. I want Alabama, no matter who is the HC, to return to being a major power in the SEC.

it's perfectly normal for ANY real teams fans to talk about the upcoming season and when you have a new coach with a lot of potential it's prefectly normal to discuss the future.

I suspect UAB fans are talking about Calloway and what they expect.

I bet there was disucssions prior to last season about the upcoming season.

Saban brings excitment why curtail that excitement - Was it wrong for
92k to show up for A-day a practice game.

Nothing with wrong being excited about the upcoiming season & future or discussing what we expect from the team.

I think that is normal....?

I find it hard to believe that Shula of Frans future expectations were not discussed..?

not a big deal - should be a fun season

I want to be a major power in the Country - being SEC Champ is great but I want to be an NC contender also.

Yeah, that is his MO. It's the Saban way or the highway and he could care less if fans, boosters, or media like his style or not. The upside to Saban's way of doing things is clear, his methods produce results and those results turn into wins. Fans like wins. Fans dislike losses.

I think it's pretty odd how everyone thinks that it's going to take 3-5 years for us to get back into just being just competitive in the SEC when we were already competitive in the SEC before Saban got here. It's not like we were bottom feeders. Bottom line is this, Saban has already shown what he can do with an SEC Team. He took an LSU team that might have been equal to or maybe slightly less talented than this years Bama team and in his first season, went 8-4. Year 2, he won 10 games and an SEC Title. Year 3, a dropoff back to 8 wins. Year 4, another SEC Title and a National Championship. Get the picture.

We have the facilities and the coach to recruit any stud we want. We made a big step with this class and in the following years our recruiting classes will only get better. We will be doing more than just trying to compete for an SEC title in 5 years. I rest my case.

Nothing with wrong being excited
What? Who is wrong? Is that wrong way bo?

Certain comments on many different threads would lead a Bama fan to question some posters motivation.
