A Scene from Practice

Sounds like a couple of posters here could use a practice like that to get rid of some aggression.

FWIW, if someone had gotten hurt, yah it would've sucked. But guys get hurt all the time 'in practice' and you never know if it happened during something like this or not. It amazes me how some folks seem to think this is not extremely common on the practice field...

as the poster before said. looks like our o-line might just be getting a little tougher, something they sorely need.

hopefully, spring practice has been chock full of "competition". :D

playing OL or DL is especially difficult, If you watch a RB or LB or virtually any other position there are plays they essentially aren't involved due to the play or circumstance. OL and DL get hit in the chops every single play, and it aint nice in there, you can't do it if your a nice person, Thats not to say they can't be nice off the field, but when your on the field you have to turn on a switch and become a brutal nasty person. Show me a team that doesn't have scuffles in practice and I'll show you a team that finishes 0-12.

The race thing is rediculous, there is no race in football, you have your team and then there's everybody else. I grew up just as forced integration started, Trust me there was alot of tension in the classroom, on the Phys ed fields, everywhere, but when you strapped on that helmet everybody looked the same, everybody was treated the same, None of that outside stuff mattered. It was an experience that has serves me to this day.

Aggressiveness and temperment are very important in the trenches. You'll hear references to these repeatedly when coaches and scouts are evaluating linemen.

They want them big, mean, and nasty from sideline to sideline. This scene from practice does nothing but confirm that we've got some good ones on the field now.

Ain't no room for "peace-love-and-happiness" in the trenches.

From the perspective of this video...the question I have is why did Jeremy Clark let himself get pushed completely out of bounds by a backup before fighting back (thus the question about the Miss State game two years ago)? He should be mad. He needs to take off the roller skates and start that fight before he's taken completely off the field. The backup won that fight before it ever started.

I also played football too and one thing the coaches teach you is that one of your teammates is losing a battle or they start a altercation you defend your side of the ball. :)

Exactly!!!

I wonder what kind of football RT 13 26 played????

Football is not a game of rainbows, lollipops and teddy bears. It is a game of aggression and violence. Sometimes tempers get out of hand.

What we all saw was heated competition. I think this was a good thing.

As someone has already pointed out, you see this in pee wee ball with little kids. This is normal stuff, these guys just happen to be a lot bigger.

I posted the video to show that the OL appears to be getting a little tougher and showing some moxie or unit togetherness. This video is a positive sign for the often maligned OL. Clark is one of Bama's best best DTs and one of the youngest OL Deaton was after him good and put him on his back. Clark and then Gilberry took exception to Deaton and from what I could see just about the entire OL took exception to Gilberry's shove and jumped Gilberry. The jumpees included Caldwell and Stabler. I for one liked to see it as long as no one was hurt. In the end Clark said said "Get over there, this is your own teammates." It was a heat of the moment thing that happen. It had nothing to do with an color other than Crimson and White.

Too funny

Good lord, guys. You naysayers have never played football. This is very common and is sometimes "encouraged" by the coaches when it is needed.

Like Earle said, even Coach Bryant liked to see the players ball their fists up occasionally. And you can't practice or play afraid of getting hurt.

I got your football history the first time. We are all very impressed with your football prowess.

My coaches didn't promote fighting either, but most everyone that posted on this thread agrees, it happens all the time in football camps. It certainly happens in ALL football camps at this level. One of my best friends played at Alabama and he told me this sort of thing happens EVERY year (spring and fall).

It would be helpful to read what the Moderators and Administrators post. You can learn a lot about what is going on with the team by reading what these guys have to say. These are people that are in the know. As Earle pointed out, this is very common.

It is competition. They are fighting for playing time. There is nothing wrong with this as long as they leave it on the football field.

obviously you didn't..

Only 11 years between little league, junior high and high school and another 3 years in college.

I didn't really feel the need to brag about my football days. This board is about ALABAMA FOOTBALL, not to brag, reminisce and try to impress others with our own football exploits.

I'm going to say this one more time, and that's it.

You two take this little spat off line. Keep things like this off of this forum.

I don't care who has played where and how long. There isn't, never has been, and never will be a pre-requisite for posting opinions on this forum that includes "you must have played football to have an opinion."

I'm sure you can guess what my next action is...
