SIAP (I looked), but I thought this was interesting.
AJ has not been a life-long Bama fan (judging by his statement that he almost went to OU), so he probably doesn't have the intense, uh, "dislike" that most Bama fans on here have towards the barn. I can understand, in that respect, him pulling for the barn to keep the NC in the SEC; add to the fact his hot GF graduated from there, and his support for the barn, which I can understand but don't agree with, seems to be reasonable.
But wearing orange and blue at the game? Maybe it's just me, but for his teammates who are lifelong Bama fans, that seems to me like it would be a bit too much. His wanting to see the barn win may in some twisted way be interpreted as a classy move, but wearing barn colors? I am confused here. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? This is NOT an attempt to bash IMO the greatest (especially if he has a good game against OU) QB to ever play at Bama , just looking for a way to rationalize his wearing barn colors. He can do whatever he wants, obviously, but still...is it possible that some Bama players may look at this as disrespectful?
Mods, if this is looked at as an attempt to belittle AJ in any way, I'm sure you will delete this thread; I am just looking for a method to what this life-long Bama fan views as "madness". :conf3:

Let's strip his name from the record books! We can't have this foolishness! It's much more personal for the fans than the players. You can love Alabama and not hate Auburn.

This is the reason people hate Alabama fans so much. Do not ridicule one of the greatest QB's in Alabama history for the mere reason he is supporting Auburm in the BCSNC. He has the right to root on whoever he wants to. His GF is a graduate of Auburn and as she supported AJ last year in Miami, he will be supporting her this year in Pasadena.

I can care less who he roots for. He is a true Alabama fan. By him considering to sign with OU when he was being recruited does not mean he wasn't a true Alabama fan. A recruit has to look at the total picture and their goals as an athlete.

I hope Auburn beats a mud hole in FSU on Jan 6th to end the BCS with a 8 game SEC winning streak and a 5 game state of Alabama win streak.

I had a friend from high school that was an Auburn football manager. Back in the days of tear away jerseys, all the skill players had several extras on the sidelines. He got me an extra Ozzie jersey and a Wlliam Andrews jersey. Would still have both had I not been dumb enough to put them in the washing machine.

I hope FSU wins by five touchdowns. But I have no issue with AJ cheering for the Barn.

I read an article earlier this year that said Wes Neighbors was cheering for LSU against us. Why? His son plays for the Bengal Tigers.

Not sure about wearing the orange and blue part...that's going a bit too far methinks.

Otherwise he's earned the right to pull for whoever he wants.

And Alexander is right...it's much more a 'fan thing' than a 'player thing'.

Perspective.

I've had this same discussion with family members-- my only conclusion-- "It's got to be some Jedi Mind Trick-for his girlfriend!" LOL
But, I must say I've never seen a player do that. I just asked my wife(MS State Alum) if she's ever seen a State player do that with Ole Miss. Her response-pull for them-maybe, wear their colors-NEVER. Oh well, doesn't matter to me, I'll be at the game on Jan 2 to see him play and will probably be depressed the whole way home knowing that that was his last game in a Crimson uniform!

I hate Auburn.
I hope FSU beats them 56-3.
But I understand AJ wearing the colors for his girlfriend, who's been gracious enough to wear crimson and white for her boyfriend. Good on ya', AJ.

Now, if she were a Tennessee fan, different story. I wouldn't wear that puke orange for anybody or anything.

I don't think the rivalry is nearly as intense and bitter for the players as it is for the fans. Most of the players know each other/grew up around each other.

I've long said those of us who didn't grow up in Alabama view the rivalry far differently than those who did (or still do) - I only lived in AL for the years I attended UA, so I don't have any extra animosity for the cow college - I pretty much hate all the SEC teams equally.

That said, I'm not hearing all the rumors about the cows under Malzahn - on the surface, it appears he's running the program cleanly and winning games the right way. Since that's the case, and since I'm personally convinced Jameis is a rapist, I understand where AJ is coming from...

As large, athletic men, no one would probably aggravate the players like our friends and family do us. I think AJ is pulling (at least verbally ) for the barn to please his girlfriend. That I can understand, but also believe he is trying to display good sportsmanship after the loss. He has always been a class act. Me? Not so much in this situation. I hope FSU wins.

I'm with AJ. I will pull for *U (minus wearing their colors). My hatred for the Barn I was born with (I feel), so to me it is worse for FSU who has put themselves in the list of teams I hate by sheer force. That coupled with my dislike for Winston, means I couldn't pull for FSU no matter what...

I just can't root for the Barn. Never have, never will, but I just can't root for those Seminoles either.

So, I just don't know what to do! This is just not my year.

Why did the best team lose down at the Barn this year?

I'm not going to criticize AJ for rooting for the barn (something I definitely will not be doing).

Still, I just can't imagine a Bama football player wearing aubie colors.
