BREAKING Alabama Expected To Hire Derrick Nix as New WR Coach

And that's just the ones that were listed! I know Germie was banged up, and I know Ryan has been banged up all year, but I think was healthier in that game and he did show up a little in the 1st half. I think in the second half we were just so decimated that we just folded. There's only so much you can handle when you're missing that many players.

I think most of our guys playing were dinged... A bunch of guys running 60-80%...

I saw a post on X by a Bama reporter (can't remember who) and he said against Georgia the injuries were grossly understated. Basically, he listed 8 positions that starters were missing at. That's over 1/3 of our starters out. No wonder we looked so depleted!
Starters and a few 2nd stringers. We were playing freshmen and others with no game play experience.

How many of us are at practice to know what people are being coached on. Asking so I can I can find out who actually knows what they are talking about when they say players aren’t being taught this or that!
You don’t have to be a practice to see that our receivers don’t disengage the hands of the dbs. You don’t have to be at practice to see these guys struggle with physical play.

The technique was most likely being taught, the technique just wasn’t sticking I suppose.

This is different than the offensive line who I think dont necessarily have the foot speed to get through some of the pulls they want them to execute.

Sort of confused by your answer because you seem to contradict about being taught the technique. I’m assuming that these guys get enough repetition in practice and have been playing the position for few years starting in HS.

Ultimately the lack of execution by a group of players falls at the feet of the coaching. If the entire wr group struggles with separation or physicality, that is the responsibility of the coaching. Its one thing to have one player within a group not being able to get separation or not being physical, thats on the individual player. When its most or all of the unit, thats on the coaching and I dont have to be at practice to know that.

Sure. I just don’t see where it’s everyone in the entire unit. I guess I’m in the camp that believes that Ty holds the ball too long and that the window closes on WR routes.

DeBoer has an underrated eye for assistants and got a bunch of very talented coaches to take positional demotions (Ellis, Womack, Lindquist, etc.) and it wasn’t just due to the Bama brand (they likely know he’s been on the rise).

Otherwise I get the concerns with Nix as a pure wr technician coach. He did do well at Ole Miss for four years as wr coach so he already has some solid experience, is a strong recruiter who knows the SEC intensity on that front, is a strong rb coach, and even looked pretty good calling plays when he replaced Freeze this year. Hes a multi-tooled coach with multiple skill sets and any additional mentoring of the wrs can come from DeBoer but it’s not like hes a downgrade. The guy brings a ton of value to the staff.
