Alabama QB competition article

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Typically, the 2nd string QB is the most popular guy on the team. If Tua is the starter, will the fans be calling for Jalen to play?
No chance. Mac Jones would be the 2nd option.

I suggested a few days ago the CNS ought to start Mac Jones. First play, take snap and turn and hand it to Damien Harris.

Second play of the game put in Tua and wink at the camera.

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

At least for the first game it doesn’t matter who starts but this needs to be wrapped up by the Ole Miss game. I would hate another 2015 Ole Miss game repeat.

Two issues though, the “most deserving” talk and the “if you start Tua and he struggles it’s gonna be hard to go back to Hurts” angle. Yes, while Saban did play Jalen as long as he could (and it was right of him to do so), Tua came in and did what he needed to do and won us the National Championship, how is he not deserving enough to start?

Why not bring Duron Carter in for a wildcat?

I thought the same but said he would direct snap to Harris with both Tua and Hurts spread wide. LOL

Speaking of it..we need the thread about what the first play will be. It is always interesting to see who is right.

I will be shocked if Tua is not the starter. CNS is the best coach today. But what makes him great is he is always thinking of the whole, not the part, so I will await his decision.

I won't be mad if it's Jalen who starts. But I'm pretty conviced Tua is going to start but maybe I'm just crazy.

It would be the ultimate troll job if he ran PA and let Mac hit one of the WRs over the top for a TD. Then, he turned and winked at the camera.

If Tua doesn’t start him and his brother deserve to transfer.

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

I now expect it, unless something changes...
Oh my...I don't know what to think about that. It just seems to defy all logic if true. Earle, I'd love to know what the reasoning behind that decision might be, if you have any insight into such a thing.

I've been super optimistic that the correct decision would be made..... based on performance and merit.....

After some of these latest posts though..... I feel nauseous.

Might as well start the whole 2nd string if the Best player doesn't start...

Unbelievable...

Playing devil's advocate...

For whatever you think of Jalen's deficiencies and for however many times anyone screams that 26-2 is a team accomplishment (when is it not?!) the fact remains that Jalen has been a steady cool-headed hand and his play did not prevent Alabama from getting to the past two national championship games. Say what you want, it's still true.

I have my opinion on the matter but I (thankfully) am not in position to make the decision. And though I may not agree when/if the decision is made I will cheer for Jalen and the team to play better than they've ever played before and to have nothing but success and just the same if Tua trots out to start the game. And if the backup gets in I'll cheer for them and the team just like I did the starter.

The man making the decision has 6 national championships to his name. 6. Not 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 or 5, but 6. 5 in the past 9 years. Just missed 3 in a row twice during that time thanks to last second heroics by the other teams, once in the championship game itself. And lost in the semi-final yet another year. The man knows what he is doing. I may not agree with every decision he makes but his acumen is proven time after time. Is he human and therefore fallible? Yes. Have I and will I question his decisions? Yes. But he has earned my respect and deserves a fair amount of deference.

What will matter more than who starts the first game is who will win the job and how? What matters more is that we are Alabama Crimson Tide fans. We are fans of the school, the players, and the coaches. After all the hard work they put in they deserve our respect. Everything will work out just fine.

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

I have to admit it would sour me to see Jalen start after what Tua has shown. We wouldn't have won that championship without Tua, and to me it is black and white obvious who is the better QB. I can't believe it's even a question to people. I truly believe we finally have a once-in-a-lifetime type QB here at Bama, and to see him not start after performing the magic he did last season I'd really be disappointed. It was obvious to me at the A-day game a couple of years ago when Tua had this magical touch on the ball that seemed to just land right where the WR needed it to that we had something special. If Saban puts him on the bench, I hope he transfers to somewhere else that appreciates what he can do because we apparently do not.

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

I prefer that Tua start, but I also think we'll likely beat UL either way. One concern I have is how the fans in the stadium will react if Jalen trots out there to take the first snap. If the fans 'Boo' (and especially if it's heard on TV) that will not be a good look. How will that make Jalen feel? I'd be embarrassed and also feel bad for Jalen.

I'm cheering either way, but I definitely prefer that Tua be the starting QB.
