When is someone going to ask Saban about the QB situation in 2024? While it can sometimes be fun to speculate, I would like to hear if straight from the horse's mouth. I find it interesting that noone has asked him yet.

I just can't imagine any offensive coordinator would decide on a quarterback who can't run his full playbook unless someone overrides his decision. That is, if all the rumors floating around that Reese had to simplify the offense for Milroe.

It's not rumors we made the change. The coaches talked about it, pretty openly. IT was certainly the topic of meetings with the game broadcast staff cause Kirk H. knew a good bit. It was also really, really obvious just watching the play calls, route trees etc. Then after the bye week, it was totally different, and that's when Kirk started saying things like simplified for him, made it a one-read look, and even that they are giving JM the ability to make the give/keep read on 'option' runs - those are being sent from the sideline.

think back to the visuals we saw of CTR in the booth, with this kinda 'I don't know what to do look". Reality is that he was calling plays that should have been successful, that had opportunities where they should have been, but the ball wasn't being delivered. Listen to the 'unofficial assistant coach' on youtube. He jokes that all the TEs and RBs must have been trying to get with JMs girlfriend because they are all wide open so often but JM refuses to throw them the ball.

It all really made me feel that the staff didn't really think JM was the right answer as the starter, but that the others didn't make it a complete no brainer decision, and team made their choice and showed versus USF they weren't going to play for someone else, so the team made their bed and had to lay in it.

Speaking of Rees I bet his phone has been ringing nonstop since Saban announced his retirement.

I think having to deal with making a change at QB. And having to deal with attitudes of players about it was the final straw that cemented Saban's decision to retire. That's what got him feeling old all the sudden. I will always feel he yielded to players knowing in his heart it wasn't the right choice. He has always been about total control and he no longer felt he had it.

They led into the next segment of Fox News talking about historic changes in football yesterday. It showed a picture of Saban while playing " I did it my way."
