Youre right but we just won the NT and havent had great true DL passrushers in a loooooooong time like Copeland/Curry and thats all we're missing on def. Id like to know why those specific DL position players are all going to uf when UA should be able to go down to fla and get who they want and when CNS is the best defensive mind in the nation. Usually when a program wins a title they start cherry picking recruits not just one place but everywhere. It may sound petty because everything has been great but the only state CNS hasnt cherry picked since hes been here is fla. Thats the last stronghold to break imho and Id like to see it happen to knock the uf's below their knees even further. The first 2 places Id love to see one taken is out of pohokee and gainsville.

I feel like we have done a great job in Fla. We pulled Trent Richardson out of there and that alone should be enough to prove that Saban can get great recruits out of Fla. I don't ever think it will get to the point where every top recruit out of Fla will want to go to Alabama there is just too much pressure to go to FSU, UM, or UF. But if you look at our last few years of recruiting there have been quite a few high quality players from Fla.

Florida assembling a class for the ages - Insider - ESPN
SAN ANTONIO -- The Florida Gators have what is already the nation's top-ranked recruiting class. Apparently, that's not good enough. After landing three more of the nation's top players during the Army All-American Bowl, the Gators are assembling one of the best recruiting classes of all time.

One week after scoring defensive tackle Dominique Easley (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis) and receiver Chris Dunkley (Pahokee, Fla./Pahokee) during the Under Armour All-America Game, the Gators earned commits from DT Sharrif Floyd (Philadelphia/George Washington), ATH Matt Elam (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Dwyer) and five-star DE Ronald Powell (Moreno Valley, Calif./Rancho Verde).

It's possible for us to catch Texas and take the number 2 slot. But i do not seeing us in any scenario being number 1. Florida has that pretty much locked. So much already committed and so many 4 and 5 stars still on their board. Even with Prater and Baxter, we couldn't pass the Gators. It's not that big of a deal to me. Top 5 is all that counts in my book.

The national championship usually helps the following year in recruiting. It can help land a kid who is totally unsure where he wants to go, but these kids were juniors going into their senior years when we won the national championship last year. Relationships had time to develope between coaches and recruits. Another thing is even when there are coaching changes, a good school and program recruits itself. As far as raiding Florida goes, it happens every year because of the sheer number of prospects available within the state. Not every kid in Florida can go to UF,FSU, or UM. South Florida is taking some of these kids now but Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Ohio State and countless others have for years. If every recruit in the country could only go to college in the state they grew up in and there were no limits on scholarships, Florida colleges would be crazy good as would the schools in Texas and California. Oklahoma and Nebraska would probably become insignificant. Alabama has had their share of our wealth. Richardson is the most recent but Derrick Thomas is pretty noteworthy. Trent came from the panhandle and that hasn't been a big area for us in years. Bama, Auburn, FSU have picked up some kids from there. DJ Hall, Keith Brown, Mike Johnson, etc.

To be honest, I really want to see Alabama finish on top of the recruiting rankings again. At one point I wasn't concerned with that, but with Auburn fans in a frenzy over Alabama's success on and off-the-field, they would hold it over us if they finished ahead of Alabama. Usually I don't concern myself with them, but the past year has been very irritating with their rumors and trash talk.

As for finishing at the top, it'll be a tight race, and losing Blake Sims doesn't help. However, we should add C.J. Mosley tomorrow, and Arie Kouandjio and James Stone should follow suit by NSD. I suspect one or two more high profile guys will jump into the fray, especially considering the national title, and positive aspects of that.
Hey, just remember, it will be a moral victory for them. Those moral victories are really, really, really important you know. Go 1-10, but have 8 moral victories are more important than going 10-1.

I'm sure a lot of the rival coaches are telling recruits that Bama is so loaded at every position (after two #1 recruiting classes in a row) that it will be 2 years before they can contribute. They try to convince them that it is not true that Saban is counting on some of them contributing right away.

The odd thing about the sudden attraction to UF is that fact that while Meyer is telling the recruits that he will be at UF "forever" he is telling the UF admin and the media that he don't know what he will do. He is definitely lying to one of the groups.

I guess the point of this post was.........to educate us about Florida recruiting?

So what's that weasel Meyers going to do now that he's suckered those kids into believing that he's staying?

Actually they go off points, so the average doesn't matter. If the average was the measuring stick, USC would win the mythical recruiting national championship every year.

Dominique Easley is from New York
Sharrif Floyd is from Philly
Ronald Powell is from California

It is hard for Alabama to get kids from states like that. Florida is the only team in the SEC that doesn't recruit kids from the deep south as much as they do kids from out of the region completely. You are more likely to find a kid from New Jersey on the Gator roster than Mississippi, LA, etc.

I will agree with you on recruiting the state of Florida though. I am surprised Saban hasn't done a better job in this state. Richardson was located real close to the state of Alabama.

I've got to agree with you, it looks as if the Gators will sign the #1 class hands down. I'm curious to see what happens down there with the turnover on the coaching staff and the (on again off again) style of Urban Meyer. I wonder how developed their class will turn-out to be four years from now.

I think Bama did an awesome job recruiting. I mean to finish in the top five, and recruit to the team's needs the way the staff did was special. Although at this point I expect nothing short of awesome, guess Saban and staff have spoiled me. Of course, me being a Bama football fan since birth made my expectations out of whack to start with.

Thoughts on next year? As far as class size? needs?
I would think The Tide probably will sign under 20 next class, but I'm not sure how many juniors will opt to go the NFL.
I would also guess that DL might be the priorty if there is one.

Like Gators960608 said it's really the year after that you see more of the affects of winning a national title in recruiting. I think the 2011 class will definitely be the one to watch for us. That being said we are putting together a really solid class again this year and filling in needs more than anything now that we've gotten more depth added recently. I wouldn't be surprised to see Auburn pass us in recruiting but it will really be a small win considering we'll still probably finish top 5 and at worst top 10. They will need to finish better than us more than just once to catch up, plus finishing just barely ahead really doesn't let them gain much ground. Not to mention I'll take Saban's recruiting evaluation above anyone else in the nation.

Chizik and company have definitely done a better job than Tubs in his final years at Auburn. Just have to wonder if they'll continue to decline on defense if all the focus goes to offense.

Little bit of trivia here....Alot of folks dont realize dat Derrick Thomas went to South Miami high school. He also WAS NOT the most heavily recruited player in Dade county, his entire team or even on defense. He WAS not even the most recruited linebacker on his team. Anyone want to take a stab at it??? Hint: The most recruited linebaker on the time was the ONLY All American on the team.

And the TIDE has signed roughly 75 recruits from Florida since 1985.
