I've always thought that a rebuilding coach, or even a coach following a successful predecessor, has three steps to make. The first is to take the preceding coach's players and prove that he can do more (or, at least, as much, with promise to do better) with them than the guy he replaced. Next, he has to prove he can recruit. Third, he has to exceed (if the guy were unsuccessful or, at least, equal, if the former coach were successful) his predecessor's accomplishments with his own recruits. I'd say that CLM is really between steps two and three at this point. Three obviously requires several years to finally shake out, so we'll wait, despite the impatience on both sides...
